Intratympanic gentamicin: a 1-day protocol treatment for unilateral Meniere's disease

Abstract Purpose The objective of this study was to assess the usefulness of low-dose intratympanic gentamicin administration in patients with Meniere's disease (MD). Materials and Methods We carried out a retrospective review of the charts of 55 patients with definite MD in accordance with the AAO-HNS (American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery) Diagnostic Scale who were treated at Gruppo Otologico (Piacenza, Rome, Italy). The treatment protocol consisted of 3 intratympanic injections of gentamicin at a 12-hour interval between each administration. La inscripción en el registro consular no es obligatoria para los emigrantes españoles. Conlleva, no obstante, una serie de ventajas que propician, antes o después, su realización. En este artículo se identifican y analizan los principales motivos que animan a ello a los emigrantes españoles. Se toman como base fundamental los datos e informaciones obtenidos a través de una encuesta cuantitativa y entrevistas semiestructuradas realizadas a más de cuatro mil españoles residentes en el extranjero. The present work studies the distribution of calcitonin gene-related peptide-immunoreactive (CGRP-li) neurons and fibers in the brain of a reptile, the lizard Podarcis hispanica. CGRP-li perikarya were not present in the telencephalon. In the thalamus, CGRP-li perikarya were restricted to the posteromedial and posterolateral nuclei. In the hypothalamus, CGRP-li cells were found mainly in the supramammillary and mammillary nuclei. In the midbrain and brainstem, CGRP-li cells appeared in the ventral tegmental area, the parabrachial nucleus, and the motor nuclei of the III-VII, IX, X, and XII cranial nerves. Motoneurons of the ventral horn of the spinal cord were also immunoreactive for CGRP. …

This article focuses on skilled migration flows from Southern Europe into Mexico. From semi-structured interviews with Spanish and Italian immigrants living in four Mexican cities of Mexico, it addresses both reasons for immigration and labour incorporation in Mexican labour markets. Specifically, it explores: i) the role of the economic crisis and the lack of good employment in the countries of origin as a key factor when deciding an international migration; ii) the employment opportunities offered in Mexican labour markets for the highly-skilled immigrants, and iii) the role played by the Mexican state and its current immigration law when channelling this group into the labour market

Yhdysvaltain kommodori Matthew C. Perry purjehti Japaniin vuosina 1853 ja 1854 tavoitteenaan solmia aiemmin sulkeutuneen maan kanssa yhteistyösopimus. Hän koosti matkasta runsaan matkakertomuksen, jossa kuvaillaan matkaa, neuvotteluja ja matkalla kohdattuja kansoja. Pro gradu -tutkielmassani selvitän, millaisen kuvan Perryn nimissä julkaistu matkakertomus antoi Japanista ja japanilaisista, miten japanilaiset suhteutuivat muihin idän kansoihin ja mitä kuvaus lopulta kertoi amerikkalaisista itsestään.
