Social fears are common, whereas Social Phobia is diagnosed infrequently. Therefore, we compared the clinical diagnoses (ICD-10) in an outpatient and CL service of a psychosomatic university hospital to patients' self ratings in social fears on the Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale (LSAS). Over the course of one year 688 patients could be characterized regarding their clinical diagnoses, LSAS-scores, symptom severity (SCL-90R) and psychosomatic complaints (GBB-24). However, although its effectiveness has been widely demonstrated, there are still some limitations regarding the possibility of offering this type of treatment to all panic sufferers. Abstract This chapter discusses the effects of coffee consumption on anxiety response, taking into account vulnerability factors such as sex and genetics. In light of research concerning the effects of coffee on normal anxiety, and particularly research carried out in our laboratory, current knowledge can be summarized as follows: (1) men appear to be more sensitive to the effects of coffee than women; and (2) coffee can increase alertness in habitual consumers after acute deprivation, but not above the level of that observed in nonconsumers. The aim of this study is to explore the differences and similarities of Somatic Amplification (SA) in both panic and hypochondriasis disorders. An additional objective is to validate the Somatosensory Amplification Scale (SSAS) for use in our cultural context. For these purposes, 34 patients (17 with hypochondriasis and 17 with panic disorder; DSM-III-R criteria) completed the following questionnaires: SSAS, State–Trait Anxiety Inventory, Beck Depression Inventory, MMPI Hypochondriasis Scale, Illness Attitude Scales and Illness Behaviour Questionnaire. Journal Article; OBJECTIVE To describe incidence patterns and trends in children (0-14 years) and adolescents (15-19 age-range) with solid tumours, except those of central nervous system (CNS), in Spain. METHODS Cases were drawn from eleven Spanish population-based cancer registries. Incidence was estimated for the period 1983-2007 and trends were evaluated using Joinpoint regression analysis. RESULTS The studied tumour groups accounted for 36% of total childhood cancers and 47.6% of those diagnosed in adolescence with annual rates per million of 53.5 and 89.3 respectively. The objective of the present study was to identify efferent and afferent transmitters of motoneurons of the tensor tympani muscle (MoTTM) to gain more insight into the neuronal regulation of the muscle. To identify MoTTM, we injected the fluorescent neuronal tracer Fluoro-Gold (FG) into the muscle after preparation of the middle ear in adult rats. Upon terminal uptake and retrograde neuronal transport, we observed FG in neurons located lateral and ventrolateral to the motor trigeminal nucleus ipsilateral to the injection site.
