Development of fast analysis methods for extractives in papermaking process waters

2011

A fast analysis method with an online sample enrichment technique for the analysis of resin and fatty acids present in papermaking process waters was developed. This method was based on atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI) and mass spectrometry (MS) for the detection of [M-H]- ions of compounds of interest. The method was applied to the control of the most prevalent resin (dehydroabietic and abietic) and fatty (palmitic, stearic, oleic, and linolenic) acid levels in papermaking process waters. Continuous data on these acids are of practical importance when predicting possible deposit-derived problems in the paper machine. The first part of the study was focused on the development…

Parlamentarismin kannattajasta vallankumouksen äänitorveksi : Suomen Sosialidemokraattisen Puolueen lehdistö 1917-1918

2018

The research topic of this dissertation is the press of the Social Democratic Party of Finland (SDP) from the March revolution of 1917 in Russia to the end of the Finnish Civil War in the spring of 1918. Under research are 16 party papers, which, however, were not owned by the party, and therefore neither under its guidance nor control. The papers' owners, local working class organizations, elected the editors-in-chief, who often held central posts in the party. In this way they could use their relatively independent positions to further their political views in their editorials. In the dissertation the press reports are bound with the ideology and policies of the SDP. The first theme is th…

Party autonomy regarding jurisdiction under the property regimes regulations

2021

The main accomplishment of the Property Regimes Regulations lies in their bringing more coherence into the cross-border family law adjudication. In the field of international jurisdiction, they strive to align the competence in couples? patrimony disputes to that in succession and in separation proceedings, or else to align the competence of the courts to the applicable law. These tendencies are clearly visible in the Regulations? provisions on choice of court agreements. Namely, the Regulations allow for such agreements, but severely limit parties? choice and the possible effects of these clauses. TRAIL acts synergistically with iron oxide nanocluster-mediated magneto- and photothermia

2019

International audience; Targeting TRAIL (Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-Related Apoptosis-Inducing Ligand) receptors for cancer therapy remains challenging due to tumor cell resistance and poor preparations of TRAIL or its derivatives. Herein, to optimize its therapeutic use, TRAIL was grafted onto iron oxide nanoclusters (NCs) with the aim of increasing its pro-apoptotic potential through nanoparticle-mediated magnetic hyperthermia (MHT) or photothermia (PT). Methods: The nanovector, NC@TRAIL, was characterized in terms of size, grafting efficiency, and potential for MHT and PT. The therapeutic function was assessed on a TRAIL-resistant breast cancer cell line, MDA-MB-231, wild type (WT) or T…

Targeted Drug Delivery in Plants: Enzyme‐Responsive Lignin Nanocarriers for the Curative Treatment of the Worldwide Grapevine Trunk Disease Esca

2019

Abstract Nanocarrier (NC)‐mediated drug delivery is widely researched in medicine but to date has not been used in agriculture. The first curative NC‐based treatment of the worldwide occurring grapevine trunk disease Esca, with more than 2 billion infected plants causing a loss yearly of $1.5 billion, is presented. To date, only repetitive spraying of fungicides is used to reduce chances of infection. This long‐term treatment against Esca uses minimal amounts of fungicide encapsulated in biobased and biodegradable lignin NCs. A single trunk injection of <10 mg fungicide results in curing of an infected plant. Only upon Esca infection, ligninolytic enzymes, secreted by the Esca‐associated fu…

Bis(hydroxyammonium) hexachloridoplatinate(IV)–18-crown-6 (1/2)

2014

In the title complex, (NH3OH)2[PtCl6]·2C12H24O6, the PtIV atom is coordinated by six chloride anions in a slightly distorted octahedral geometry. The Pt—Cl bond lengths are comparable to those reported for other hexachloridoplatinate(IV) species. The hydroxyammonium groups act as linkers between the [PtCl6]2− anion and the crown ether molecules. The anion is linked to two hydroxyammonium cations via O—H...Cl hydrogen bonds and each hydroxyammonium moiety is linked to a crown ether molecule by hydrogen bonds between ammonium H atoms and 18-crown-6 O atoms. The crown ether molecules have the classic crown shape in which all O atoms are located in the inner part of the crown ether ring and all…

Risk narrations and perceptions in the COVID-19 time. A discourse analysis through the Italian press

2020

This paper explores how the risk related to the pandemic of COVID-19 was managed, narrated and perceived in Italy during the lockdown phase, from February until June 2020. To reach this aim, the study provides a discourse analysis of three main level: the official institutional discourses declaimed by the government and the health authority; the risk narration spread through the diaphragm of the Italian press, and specifically through two of the most-read newspapers in Italy (Repubblica and Corriere della Sera) and their related weeklies (Venerdì di Repubblica and Sette); finally, the diverse reactions and perceptions to the risk coming from the most affected and most vulnerable subjects, c…

Block copolymers from ionic liquids for the preparation of thin carbonaceous shells

2017

This paper describes the controlled radical polymerization of an ionic-liquid monomer by RAFT polymerization. This allows the control over the molecular weight of ionic liquid blocks in the range of 8000 and 22000 and of the block-copolymer synthesis. In this work we focus on block copolymers with an anchor block. They can be used to control the formation of TiO2 nanoparticles, which are functionalized thereafter with a block of ionic-liquid polymer. Pyrolysis of these polymer functionalized inorganic nanoparticles leads to TiO2 nanoparticles coated with a thin carbonaceous shell. Such materials may, e.g., be interesting as battery materials.
