The Eco-tourist in Canadian and Italian national Parks

The present paper aims to compare the image of the eco-tourist across languages and cultures, Canadian and Italian. An ad-hoc comparable corpus has been created from the official websites of National Parks which represent a kind of eco-tourist destination. The analysis attempts to trace a profile of Canadian and Italian eco-tourists Drawing upon the Functional Grammar (Halliday 1985) and addresses issues connected with Hall’s model (1983): Are Canadian and Italian ecotourism discourses shaped by their own cultural orientation, or do they attempt to speak in the tongue of the displaced tourist?

The standard separable 2-D wavelet transform (WT) has recently achieved a great success in image processing because it provides a sparse representation of smooth images. However, it fails to efficiently capture 1-D discontinuities, like edges or contours. Bībeles stāsti, kurus Evaņģēlijā sauc par līdzību stāstiem vai parabolām ir biblisks žanrs, kas ir pētīts pēdējo desmitgāžu laikā. Šajā periodā šos stāstus sāka analizēt no tekstuālās, literārās, un vēsturiskās perspektīvas. Pētījumi atklāj, ka zinātniska pieeja ir nepieciešama, lai izprastu un izskaidrotu Bībeles stāstus. Darbā tiek izmantots novatoriska perspektīva un divu līmeņu parabolu nozīmju analīze. Joint second-order parameter estimation for spatio-temporal log-Gaussian Cox processes

We propose a new fitting method to estimate the set of second-order parameters for the class of homogeneous spatio-temporal log-Gaussian Cox point processes. With simulations, we show that the proposed minimum contrast procedure, based on the spatio-temporal pair correlation function, provides reliable estimates and we compare the results with the current available methods. Moreover, the proposed method can be used in the case of both separable and non-separable parametric specifications of the correlation function of the underlying Gaussian Random Field. We describe earthquake sequences comparing several Cox model specifications.
