The forestry sector in Italy and throughout Europe is going through a critical period due to ongoing natural and anthropological processes, such as climate change and the abandonment of rural areas. These processes lead to a constant fragmentation of properties in small forest parcels, with direct impacts on management capacity. In this framework, new sustainable forest management methods are being tested and are shown to be good practices to oppose the decline of forest ecosystems. Parceling in Multilevel Structural Equation Models for the measure of a latent construct

When the variables of interest are measured by a set of items on units having a multilevel setting, conventional structural equation models cannot be used because the assumption of independence of all latent variables and indicators across units is violated due to the within-cluster dependence. In this work we propose the use of parcelling in defining of latent variables of a multilevel structural equation model (MSEM). The paper aims to face the problem of the use of categorical item response data when a multilevel SEM must be applied.

National audience; Ces recherches sur les ensembles de structures de pierre sous forêt sont mises en œuvre depuis dix ans et sont inté- grées depuis 2003 dans le P.C.R. ‘Vix et son Environnement', dirigé par C. Mordant, S. Wirth et B. Chaume. Les vestiges étudiés sont implantés dans deux milieux géographiques distincts mais contigus : le plateau calcaire recouvert par la forêt domaniale de Châtillon, et les rebords de la Digeanne et du Brevon qui entaillent ce plateau à l'est et au sud.
