Although Miguel Parra Abril (Valencia, 1780-Madrid, 1846) is one of the most important Valencian School painters of floral still lifes, this aspect of his work remains little known. The present article addresses this oversight in two ways. First, by offering an overview of his oeuvre as a painter of floral subjects from his student days at the Fine Arts Academy of Valencia through his mature works. Food supplementation reveals constraints and adaptability of egg quality in the magpie Pica pica

Differences in the deposition of limited maternal resources to eggs can reflect the optimal allocation to manipulate offspring phenotype, or constraints caused by maternal condition. We examined multiple maternal substances transferred to eggs in the magpie Pica pica to test the hypothesis that certain substances represent constraint and some optimal allocation. We did this by supplementary feeding magpies prior to egg-laying and then comparing the effect of food on maternal substances in conjunction with laying order relative to a control group. The present study is centered on the Spanish-speaking world in a diachronic perspective, and aims to highlight recognizable recurring elements in compositions in which a poetic feminine voice expresses its feelings. Some poetic constraints are at work from the earliest compositions of female lyricism in Spain (cantigas de amigo) and one notices formal and thematic constants in more recent traditional songs (romancero and cancionero). Our analysis focuses then on the poetic work of Violeta Parra (Décimas and some canciones), who has made formal choices which are usually exclusively used by masculine authors.
