Corrections to the fluxes of a Neutrino Factory
2002
In view of their physics goals, future neutrino factories from muon decay aim at an overall flux precision of ${\cal O}(1%)$ or better. We analytically study the QED radiative corrections to the neutrino differential distributions from muon decay. Kinematic uncertainties due to the divergence of the muon beam are considered as well. The resulting corrections to the neutrino flux turn out to be of order ${\cal O}(0.1%)$, safely below the required precision.
Supersymmetric majoron signatures and solar neutrino oscillations
1988
Spontaneous R-parity breaking in supergravity solves the solar neutrino problem through matter-enhanced neutrino oscillations. The model may be tested in collider experiments and through ``dynamical'' effects associated with the existence of a weakly interacting majoron. Apart from astrophysical effects, majoron emission can produce observable changes in \ensuremath{\mu} and \ensuremath{\tau} decay spectra for parameter values that substantially reduce the solar neutrino flux. A signature of the model is the possible observation of the decay \ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}e+majoron.
A Theoretical Prediction of the Bs-Meson Lifetime Difference
2000
We present the results of a quenched lattice calculation of the operator matrix elements relevant for predicting the Bs width difference. Our main result is (\Delta\Gamma_Bs/\Gamma_Bs)= (4.7 +/- 1.5 +/- 1.6) 10^(-2), obtained from the ratio of matrix elements, R(m_b)=/=-0.93(3)^(+0.00)_(-0.01). R(m_b) was evaluated from the two relevant B-parameters, B_S^{MSbar}(m_b)=0.86(2)^(+0.02)_(-0.03) and B_Bs^{MSbar}(m_b) = 0.91(3)^(+0.00)_(-0.06), which we computed in our simulation.
Higgs lepton flavour violation: UV completions and connection to neutrino masses
2016
We study lepton violating Higgs (HLFV) decays, first from the effective field theory (EFT) point of view, and then analysing the different high-energy realizations of the operators of the EFT, highlighting the most promising models. We argue why two Higgs doublet models can have a $\mathrm{BR}(h\rightarrow \tau \mu)\sim 0.01$, and why this rate is suppressed in all other realizations including vector-like leptons. We further discuss HLFV in the context of neutrino mass models: in most cases it is generated at one loop giving always $\mathrm{BR}(h\rightarrow \tau \mu) < 10^{-4}$ and typically much less, which is beyond experimental reach. However, both the Zee model and extended left-right s…
A non-resonant dark-side solution to the solar neutrino problem
2001
We re-analyse spin-flavour precession solutions to the solar neutrino problem in the light of the recent SNO CC result as well as the 1258--day Super-Kamiokande data and the upper limit on solar anti-neutrinos. In a self-consistent magneto-hydrodynamics approach the resulting scheme has only 3 effective parameters: $\Delta m^2$, $\mu B_\perp$ and the neutrino mixing angle $\theta$. We show how a rates-only analysis for fixed $\mu B_\perp$ slightly favours spin-flavour precession (SFP) solutions over oscillations (OSC). In addition to the resonant solution (RSFP for short), there is a new non-resonant solution (NRSFP) in the ``dark-side''. Both RSFP and NRSFP lead to flat recoil energy spect…
Precise predictions for Dirac neutrino mixing
2016
The neutrino mixing parameters are thoroughly studied using renormalization-group evolution of Dirac neutrinos with recently proposed parametrization of the neutrino mixing angles referred as `high-scale mixing relations'. The correlations among all neutrino mixing and $CP$ violating observables are investigated. The predictions for the neutrino mixing angle $\theta_{23}$ are precise, and could be easily tested by ongoing and future experiments. We observe that the high scale mixing unification hypothesis is incompatible with Dirac neutrinos due to updated experimental data.
Measuring the leptonic CP phase in neutrino oscillations with nonunitary mixing
2017
Non-unitary neutrino mixing implies an extra CP violating phase that can fake the leptonic Dirac CP phase $\delta_{CP}$ of the simplest three-neutrino mixing benchmark scheme. This would hinder the possibility of probing for CP violation in accelerator-type experiments. We take T2K and T2HK as examples to demonstrate the degeneracy between the "standard" (or "unitary") and "non-unitary" CP phases. We find, under the assumption of non-unitary mixing, that their CP sensitivities severely deteriorate. Fortunately, the TNT2K proposal of supplementing T2(H)K with a $\mu$DAR source for better measurement of $\delta_{CP}$ can partially break the CP degeneracy by probing both $\cos \delta_{CP}$ and…
Probing CP violation with non-unitary mixing in long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments: DUNE as a case study
2016
When neutrino masses arise from the exchange of neutral heavy leptons, as in most seesaw schemes, the effective lepton mixing matrix $N$ describing neutrino propagation is non-unitary, hence neutrinos are not exactly orthonormal. New CP violation phases appear in $N$ that could be confused with the standard phase $\delta_{\text{CP}}$ characterizing the three neutrino paradigm. We study the potential of the long-baseline neutrino experiment DUNE in probing CP violation induced by the standard CP phase in the presence of non-unitarity. In order to accomplish this we develop our previous formalism, so as to take into account the neutrino interactions with the medium, important in long baseline…
On the corner elements of the CKM and PMNS matrices
2013
Recent experiments show that the top-right corner element (U-e3) of the PMNS matrix is small but nonzero, and suggest further via unitarity that it is smaller than the bottom-left corner element (U-tau 1). Here, it is shown that if to the assumption of a universal rank-one mass matrix, long favoured by phenomenologists, one adds that this matrix rotates with scale, then it follows that A) by inputting the mass ratios m(c)/m(t), m(s)/m(b), m(mu)/m(tau), and m(2)/m(3), i) the corner elements are small but nonzero, ii) V-ub < V-td, U-e3 < U-tau 1, iii) estimates result for the ratios V-ub/V-td and U-e3/U-tau 1, and B) by inputting further the experimental values of V-us, V-tb and U-e2, U-mu 3,…
Photonic Nambu-Goldstone bosons
2017
We study numerically the spatial dynamics of light in periodic square lattices in the presence of a Kerr term, emphasizing the peculiarities stemming from the nonlinearity. We find that, under rather general circumstances, the phase pattern of the stable ground state depends on the character of the nonlinearity: the phase is spatially uniform if it is defocusing whereas in the focusing case, it presents a chess board pattern, with a difference of $\pi$ between neighboring sites. We show that the lowest lying perturbative excitations can be described as perturbations of the phase and that finite-sized structures can act as tunable metawaveguides for them. The tuning is made by varying the in…
