On second minimal subgroups of Sylow subgroups of finite groups

A subgroup H of a finite group G is a partial CAP-subgroup of G if there is a chief series of G such that H either covers or avoids its chief factors. Partial cover and avoidance property has turned out to be very useful to clear up the group structure. In this paper, finite groups in which the second minimal subgroups of their Sylow p-subgroups, p a fixed prime, are partial CAP-subgroups are completely classified.

Variational parabolic capacity

We establish a variational parabolic capacity in a context of degenerate parabolic equations of $p$-Laplace type, and show that this capacity is equivalent to the nonlinear parabolic capacity. As an application, we estimate the capacities of several explicit sets.

Testing the nature of the Λ(1520)-resonance in proton-induced production

The $\Lambda(1520)$ resonance has been recently studied in a unitarized coupled channel formalism with $\pi\Sigma(1385)$, $K\Xi(1530)$, $\bar{K}N$ and $\pi\Sigma$ as constituents blocks. We provide a theoretical study of the predictions of this model in physical observables of the $pp\to pK^+K^-p$ and $pp\to pK^+\pi^0\pi^0\Lambda$ reactions. In particular, we show that the ratio between the $\pi^0\pi^0\Lambda$ and $K^-p$ mass distributions can provide valuable information on the ratio of the couplings of the $\Lambda(1520)$ resonance to $\pi\Sigma(1385)$ and $\bar{K}N$ that the theory predicts. Partial Information Decomposition of Brain-Heart Interactions in Temporal Lobe Epilepsy in the Childhood

We apply information decomposition methods to elicit unique, redundant and synergistic causal contributions of ipsilateral and contralateral EEG activity to heart rate dynamics in epileptic children. We find that information flows from brain to heart according to opposite lateralization effects for the delta and alpha rhythms, suggesting that different neuroautonomic mechanisms take place in the pre- and post-ictal phases of temporal lobe seizures.

ADI schemes for valuing European options under the Bates model

This paper is concerned with the adaptation of alternating direction implicit (ADI) time discretization schemes for the numerical solution of partial integro-differential equations (PIDEs) with application to the Bates model in finance. Three different adaptations are formulated and their (von Neumann) stability is analyzed. Ample numerical experiments are provided for the Bates PIDE, illustrating the actual stability and convergence behaviour of the three adaptations. peerReviewed

Measuring the perceived value of rural tourism: a field survey in the western Sicilian agritourism sector

Rural tourism constitutes a valuable tool for the sustainable development of many rural areas. This paper examines the concept of perceived value in rural tourism. A quantitative field survey was carried out in some main Western Sicilian holiday farms (agritourisms) during the Spring 2014. A theoretical model of the tourists’ perceived value in this specific context was developed and validated, using a 22-item scale.
