Individual participant data systematic reviews with meta-analyses of psychotherapies for borderline personality disorder: A protocol

2020

AbstractIntroductionThe heterogeneity in people with BPD and the range of specialised psychotherapies means that people with certain BPD characteristics might benefit more or less from different types of psychotherapy. Identifying moderating characteristics of individuals is a key to refine and tailor standard treatments so they match the specificities of the individual patient. The objective of this is to improve the quality of care and the individual outcomes. Thus, the aim of the current reviews is to investigate potential predictors and moderating patient characteristics on treatment outcomes for patients with BPD.Methods and analysisOur primary meta-analytic method will be the one-stag…

The citadel party : The French Communist Party in the Age of Political Marginalization

2022

Since the late 1970s, the French Communist Party (PCF) has been experiencing a long period of decline, affecting several elements (electoral collapse, decrease in memberships, disintegration of its action system…). Nowadays, it is a minor player in the French party system and becoming politically marginalized. However, despite this weakening over several decades, it is still present in the political landscape and even in some ways, demonstrates a resistant skill. How can we explain that a communist party still exists in a modern society like France ? This work is aimed to answer this question with the following hypothesis : the PCF has undergone a mutation which allows it to survive. This c…

Participant Observation: The Personal Commitment in Native Life—A Problematic Methodological Topos

2020

While it is well known that fieldwork started long before Malinowski, it is equally well known that the ethnographic method based on participant observation has been, since the 1920s, taken as a foundation for anthropological research and for the scientific status of the knowledge acquired by its means. This essay has several purposes: highlighting some issues related to Malinowski’s theory and practice of research, which are full of implications not always grasped in their theoretical and methodological complexity; recalling some criticisms that have been put forward in the anthropological debate toward the notion of reflexive observation; discussing some uses and abuses of ethnographic pr…

Complex dynamics of our economic life on different scales: insights from search engine query data.

2010

Search engine query data deliver insight into the behaviour of individuals who are the smallest possible scale of our economic life. Individuals are submitting several hundred million search engine queries around the world each day. We study weekly search volume data for various search terms from 2004 to 2010 that are offered by the search engine Google for scientific use, providing information about our economic life on an aggregated collective level. We ask the question whether there is a link between search volume data and financial market fluctuations on a weekly time scale. Both collective ‘swarm intelligence’ of Internet users and the group of financial market participants can be rega…

Participants’ home as an interview context when studying sensitive family issues

2013

This article considers the meaning of the participants’ home as an interview context when studying sensitive family issues. The article is based on two qualitative family studies by the authors on foster children’s perspectives on their home and their family relations and client families’ experiences of preventive family support. Both studies address sensitive family issues, in particular Finnish child welfare. The first author’s interview data consist of interviews with foster children, social network maps and diaries and the second author’s data of interviews with six client families. Most of the interviews were conducted at the participants’ homes, but in the second author's study two in…

Semioantropologia come traduzione del vissuto

2015

It is a short ethnography of thinking written by keeping into account the dialogue established between text and images, processes of thinking and forms of codification. As a consequence, thinking is not conceived as a result of a …

From Togetherness to Equal Partnership in Role Play

1998

In the day care centre, already at the transition stage to role play children show different kinds of participation. They observe each other's play, share goal orientation and directly tutor each other. The play process is materially supported and often initiated by educators. However, children also need to acquire the power to act autonomously in role play. The different kinds of participation in young children's play, as well as the appearance and development of basic features of joint role play were examined in three games of a two‐year‐old girl, Katju, in her day care group. The games are examples of ten play sessions she was involved in. These data were collected by means of reactive p…
