Monitoring human parvovirus B19 virus-like particles and antibody complexes in solution by fluorescence correlation spectroscopy

2004

AbstractFluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) was used in monitoring human parvovirus B19 virus-like particle (VLP) antibody complexes from acute phase and pastimmunity serum samples. The Oregon Green 488-labeled VLPs gave an average diffusion coefficient of 1.7x10exp-7 cm(2)s(-1) with an apparent hydrodynamic radius of 14 nm. After incubation of the fluorescent VLPs with an acute phase serum sample, the mobility information obtained from the fluorescence intensity fluctuation by autocorrelation analysis showed an average diffusion coefficient of 1.5x10exp-8 cm(2)s(-1), corresponding to an average radius of 157 nm. In contrast, incubation of the fluorescent VLPs with a pastimmunity se…

Concurrent detection of human herpesvirus type 6 and measles-specific IgMs during acute exanthematic human parvovirus B19 infection

2006

A familial outbreak of human parvovirus B19 infection is described in which serological tests carried out routinely for determining the causal agent of febrile rashes of viral etiology failed to yield a definitive diagnosis. Concurrent detection of serum IgMs to parvovirus B19 and to heterologous viruses such as human herpesvirus type 6 (HHV-6) and measles virus complicated interpretation of the data. IgG avidity tests and investigation and testing for the presence of viral DNA in sera by PCR were required to confirm parvovirus B19. The study stresses the importance of avidity and PCR tests to obtain a firm diagnosis of febrile exanthematic viral diseases.

Are antiphospholipid antibodies an essential requirement for an effective immune response to infections?

2007

Antiphospholipid antibodies show a close association to a variety of infections. Recent data implicate that parvovirus B19 may be used as a model-system for studying the interaction of viral infection and the development of these autoantibodies. B19-related diseases commonly associated with the acute infection show flu-like symptoms, transient arthralgias, leukopenia and thrombocytopenia, and, in pregnant women, spontaneous abortion and hydrops fetalis. Hepatitis, myocarditis, meningitis, encephalitis, as well as pure red cell anemia may occur occasionally. In addition, parvovirus B19 infections have been frequently described as the cause or trigger of various forms of autoimmune diseases a…

Sero-epidemiological analysis of the risk of virus infections for childhood leukaemia.

1996

Virus infections have been thought to be involved in the development of childhood leukaemia. In order to address this issue we determined, in a case-control study, the prevalence of antibodies to viruses infecting blood or bone-marrow cells [Epstein-Barr virsus (EBV), human herpes virus type 6 (HHV-6), parvovirus B19] as well as to the human virus known for its tumour-suppressive properties, the adeno-associated virus type 2 (AAV-2), in the sera of 121 children with leukaemia in Germany, and in 197 control individuals, hospitalized for other reasons, and matched for age and gender to the cases. In addition, we developed a questionnaire to be answered by the children's parents, in order to g…

Kawasaki disease triggered by parvovirus infection: an atypical case report of two siblings.

2019

Abstract Background There are reports of the familial occurrence of Kawasaki disease but only a few reports described Kawasaki disease in siblings. However, the familial cases were not simultaneous. In these patients the idea of infective agents as trigger must be considered. Case presentation We describe two siblings with atypical presentations of Kawasaki disease; the sister was first diagnosed as having parvovirus infection with anemia and the brother was diagnosed as having myocarditis. The first patient was a 9-month-old Caucasian girl with fever, conjunctivitis, rash, and pharyngitis, and later she had cervical adenopathy, diarrhea and vomiting, leukocytosis, and anemia, which were ex…

Chromatic-achromatic perimetry in four clinic cases: Glaucoma and diabetes

2015

Color perimetry has interesting clinical application for the diagnosis and detection of certain eye conditions, due to the variations that certain diseases can cause in chromatic thresholds, both in the red-green (RG) and the blue-yellow (BY) pathways.[1,2,3,4] The separate study of the visual function of both the chromatic and achromatic mechanisms could be more efficient in detecting sensitivity variations, and such variations would not be obscured by the intrusion of other mechanisms. Currently, the supply of conventional perimeters that are capable of performing a chromatic perimetry test is very limited and with reduced options regarding the possibility of choosing the physical charact…
