Abstract The present moral crisis of humanity will be closely considered in Ackroyd's Plato's Papers via Riemann's Theorem of Earth Mapping, Kelly's Personal Construct theory and Plato's Idea of the Third Man with a view to showing that only the generally assumed relationship between logos and ethos could rescue the mentality of the entire world and retrieve temporality and morality. The Scotsman Mark Alexander Boyd proposes, in his 1592 collection, "other heroids", in which he gives voice to more diverse women than Ovid did. The article focuses on four epistles written in a Roman context (letters from Rhea Silvia to Mars, from Lavinia to Turnus, from Sophonisbe to Massinissa and from Pauline to Mundus), analyzes the modalities of Ovid's imitation, while underlining some original elements on Boyd's part.

Tutkielman aiheena on vieraan (das Fremde) käsite Bernhard Waldenfelsin filosofiassa. Nykyfilosofian piirissä erilaiset vierauteen ja toiseuteen liittyvät kysymykset näyttäisivät nousevan aina vain keskeisempään osaan aikakautemme akateemisissa diskursseissa. Tätä temaattista tendenssiä ovat vauhdittaneet muun muassa ilmiöt, joiden yhteydessä on alettu käyttää termiä ’globaali’ sekä erilaisilla elämänalueilla lisääntyneet kulttuurien väliset kohtaamiset.
