Developmental effects of the protein kinase inhibitor kenpaullone on the sea urchin embryo

The selection and validation of bioactive compounds require multiple approaches, including in-depth analyses of their biological activity in a whole-animal context. We exploited the sea urchin embryo in a rapid, medium-scale range screening to test the effects of the small synthetic kinase inhibitor kenpaullone. We show that sea urchin embryos specifically respond to this molecule depending on both dose and timing of administration. Phenotypic effects of kenpaullone are not immediately visible, since this molecule affects neither the fertilization nor the spatial arrangement of blastomeres at early developmental stages. Magic informationally complete POVMs with permutations

Eigenstates of permutation gates are either stabilizer states (for gates in the Pauli group) or magic states, thus allowing universal quantum computation [M. Planat and Rukhsan-Ul-Haq, Preprint 1701.06443]. We show in this paper that a subset of such magic states, when acting on the generalized Pauli group, define (asymmetric) informationally complete POVMs. Such IC-POVMs, investigated in dimensions $2$ to $12$, exhibit simple finite geometries in their projector products and, for dimensions $4$ and $8$ and $9$, relate to two-qubit, three-qubit and two-qutrit contextuality.

Untargeted metabolomics to explore the oxidation processes during shelf life of pork patties treated with guarana seed extracts

The changes of metabolites in pork patties with different antioxidants added (control without antioxidants, 200 mg kg(-1) butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) and 250 mg kg(-1) guarana seed extracts (GSEs)) under modified atmosphere (80% O-2 and 20% CO2) for 18 days of refrigerated storage were evaluated. Untargeted metabolomic approach based on UHPLC-ESI-QTOF-MS analysis was applied. GSE phytochemical profile revealed a wide variety of compounds (caffeine, glycerol 1-propanoate, amino acids, alkaloids and glycerophospholipids), together with antioxidants (tyrosols, procyanidins and flavonoids). The antibacterial and antifungal activities of the acetone extract from Paullinia cupana var. sorbilis Mart. (Sapindaceae) seeds, commonly called guarana, were assessed against selected bacterial and fungal strains. We tested the extract against both standard American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) and clinically isolated (CI) bacterial strains and three fungal strains. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) values for bacteria and MIC and minimum fungicidal concentration for fungi were determined.
