The purpose was to assess the effects of three interventions on bone mineral density (BMD) to prevent the onset or progression of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Specifically, thirty-nine postmenopausal women, diagnosed with osteopenia or osteoporosis, implemented either high-impact training (G1), the same training + calcium and vitamin D intake (G2), or walked at an intense pace + calcium and vitamin D (G3). Contrail formation in the tropopause region caused by emissions from an Ariane 5 rocket

Rockets directly inject water vapor and aerosol into the atmosphere, which promotes the formation of ice clouds in ice supersaturated layers of the atmosphere. Enhanced mesospheric cloud occurrence has frequently been detected near 80 km altitude a few days after rocket launches. Here, we present unique evidence for cirrus formation in the tropopause region caused by ice nucleation in the exhaust plume from an Ariane 5-ECA rocket. Meteorological reanalysis data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts show significant ice supersaturation at the 100 hPa level in the American tropical tropopause region on 26 November 2011. Sharpness of the extratropical tropopause in baroclinic life cycle experiments

[1] The sharpness of the extratropical tropopause is investigated using baroclinic life cycle experiments. In these simulations, slow synoptic scale dynamics leads to a net tropopause sharpening. The mechanism involves vertical convergence of the ageostrophic wind. The results support earlier suggestions from idealized theoretical studies.
