Metaviridae is a family of retrotransposons and reverse-transcribing viruses with long terminal repeats belonging to the order Ortervirales. Members of the genera Errantivirus and Metavirus include, respectively, Saccharomyces cerevisiae Ty3 virus and its Gypsy-like relatives in drosophilids. This is a summary of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) Report on the family Metaviridae, which is available at ictv.global/report/metaviridae.

Exploring the biodiversity of two groups of Oenococcus oeni isolated from grape musts and wines: Are they equally diverse?

One hundred and four Oenococcus oeni isolates were characterised by the carbohydrate fermentation (CH) profile and DNA fingerprinting. Forty-four isolates came from grape must, and 60 from wines sampled at the end of alcoholic fermentation or during malolactic fermentation. The grape must isolates fermented more CH than the wine isolates. In genotypical terms, no clear boundary between grape must and wine isolates was found. Measles in Italy: Viral strains and crossing borders

2019

In 2017, Italy experienced one of the largest outbreaks of measles in recent years, with 5404 notified cases and 4347 confirmed cases. A further 2029 cases were notified during the first 6 months of 2018, and 1516 of them were laboratory-confirmed. The B3 and D8 genotypes were identified as those responsible for the outbreak. Possible transmission routes can be established by monitoring the circulating measles virus strains in support of the national health authorities to warn people and travellers. Gonadal sexual differentiation of European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax, L. 1758) of fingerlings in different size classes

This report describes a study of the gonad differentiation in fingerlings of European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) belonging to different size groups. Fishes were divided into four groups according to their weight: Group 1 (4.5 ± 0.7 g), Group 2 (9.2 ± 0.8 g), Group 3 (14.8 ± 1.8 g), and Group 4 (21.8 ± 2.3 g). In all groups, low percentages of undifferentiated or early sexually differentiated fish were found. Higher percentages of fully differentiated ovaries were found in Groups 1 and 3. Fully differentiated testes occurred in 90% of Group 4. Ninety percent of fish in Group 2 had gonads with intratesticular oocytes. International descriptive and interventional survey for oxycholesterol determination by gas- and liquid-chromatographic methods

International audience; Increasing numbers of laboratories develop new methods based on gas-liquid and high-performance liquid chromatography to determine serum concentrations of oxygenated cholesterol metabolites such as 7alpha-, 24(S)-, and 27-hydroxycholesterol.
