Hacer películas chilenas desde Francia: Marcela Said y Jairo Boisier

2019

Submitting projects to international funds and the subsequent festival tour are obligatory steps for most films that, outside purely commercial circuits, seek distribution and cultural legitimacy beyond their national borders. In this globalized context, European support funds are particularly important. Following the path opened by pioneering scholars (De Valck, Elsaesser, Falicov, Shaw), this article aims to study the transnational networks in which Latin American cinema is currently involved. We address this issue by focussing on the specific case of two Chilean directors based in France: Marcela Said and Jairo Boisier. By doing so, we intend to show how European and particularly French …

The Right to Food Sovereignty in International Law

2021

With the adoption of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Peasants and Other People Working in Rural Areas (UNDROP) in 2018, the right to food sovereignty was officially included in an international legal document for the first time. The concept of food sovereignty has been widely analyzed in sociology and politics, whilst it is rarely described in the legal context. This article aims to clarify the relationship among existing norms of international law such as the right to self-determination, the right to development and the right to adequate food with the right to food sovereignty. In order to clarify this relationship the article compares them with food sovereignty as described in the UND…

Chemical Composition of Green Pea (Pisum sativum L.) Pods Extracts and Their Potential Exploitation as Ingredients in Nutraceutical Formulations

2021

Agro-industrial wastes contain a large number of important active compounds which can justify their use as innovative ingredients in nutraceutical products. This study aimed to provide a complete analysis of active molecules, namely (poly)phenols in pea pods water-based extracts, through a UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap HRMS methodology. Data showed that 5-caffeoylquinic acid, epicatechin, and hesperidin were the most relevant (poly)phenols found in the assayed extracts, with a mean value of 59.87, 29.46, and 19.94 mg/100 g, respectively. Furthermore, changes in antioxidant capacity and bioaccessibility of total phenolic compounds (TPC) after the simulated gastrointestinal (GI) process were performed usi…

Novel functional chitosan and pectin bio-based packaging films with encapsulated Opuntia-ficus indica waste

2021

Abstract The aim of this work was to study the effect of adding red prickly pear, as wasted source of antioxidants on various characteristics of novel functional (antioxidant) chitosan and pectin film formulations. Four types of prickly pear material were used: fruit pulp or peel, as powdered extracts and as aqueous extracts. Prickly pear peel extract was shown to possess higher antioxidant properties than fruit pulp. The antioxidant power of extracts was pretty high, around 1000 mgAAE∙100 g−1 for extract and that of all films around 100 mgAAE∙100 g−1 for films. Even though some changes in thickness, moisture content, water solubility, oxygen permeability and water vapor permeability of fil…

TiO2 in the food industry and cosmetics

2021

Abstract The white pigment titanium dioxide is widely used in foodstuff and cosmetics mainly because it provides whitening effect, it acts as a physical filter in sunscreen products, and due to its photocatalytic properties. As food additive, it is labeled as E171 (Europe) and INS171 (United States), and its use was approved in 1966 by the US Food and Drug Administration and in 1969 by the European Union. According to a request of the European Commission, a scientific reevaluation of the safety of TiO2 when used as food additive was recently elaborated by European Food Safety Authority ANS panel. The TiO2 photocatalytic inactivation power is widely studied in order to nonthermally decontami…

Integral Extraction of Opuntia ficus-indica Peel Bioproducts via Microwave-Assisted Hydrodiffusion and Hydrodistillation

2019

The microwave-assisted hydrodiffusion extraction process affords high quality pectin and betanin from the peel of red and green Opuntia ficus-indica fruits under mild conditions. An aqueous mixture of valued bioproducts is readily obtained from the fruit peel cell water itself, without any water addition. The integral extract can be used as such to formulate nutraceutical beverages and products or, upon straightforward separation, to isolate pectin and betanin devoid of chemical contaminants suitable as ingredients for products ranging from food and beverage to cosmetic and pharmaceutical sectors. Betanin shows exceptional stability thanks to the high amounts of antioxidant polyphenols in t…

Non-elite conceptions of Europe: Europe as reference frame in English football fan discussions

2020

International audience; Discursive approaches to Europe usually focus on elite discourses and target a narrow political understanding of Europe. Against the backdrop of rising Euroscepticism and the known elite-mass divide on issues of European identity, it seems important to shift the focus toward non-elite discourses on Europe. Given that club football is largely Europeanised (player markets, continent-wide club competitions and broadcasting of matches), we analyse how fans of the English Premier League club Manchester United discursively construct ‘Europe’ in relation to their sport. Our main research question aims at identifying how identifications of fans have been unconsciously Europe…

Europeanised identifications among football fans. The analysis of discussions in online message boards.

2021

International audience; Across Europe, national professional football leagues have seen increasing numbers of players from other EU states, while the Champions League and the Europa League have become a focal point for many teams. This article seeks to investigate how far this Europeanisation on the organisational level of football is reflected in identities and discourses of fans. We develop a framework to analyse Europeanisation of identities among football fans. In the empirical part we conduct a qualitative content analysis of fan discussions on publicly available message boards among fans of four first league teams in England and Austria. Our empirical findings indicate that fans’ iden…

AN ANALYSIS ON THE FDI FLOWS FROM EMERGING ECONOMIES TO EUROPE AND THEIR IMPACT

2014

After a concise setting of the context (by emphasizing on the FDI flows dynamics at the beginning of the 21st century through the lens of: annual inward and outward FDI flows between 2001 and 2013; annual contribution to IFDI flows and, respectively, to OFDI flows by group of countries – developed versus developing and transition ones), the paper analyzes the emerging market economies and the dynamics of their FDI flows (by using contextualization and comparisons). The main aspects targeted are: the dynamics of the outward FDI flows from EMEs comparative to the dynamics of the global outward FDI flows on annual basis, and the evolution of the specific weight of OFDI flows from EMEs in globa…

Striving for mutual understanding : native English speakers' views on speech modifications in intercultural encounters

2016

”Foreigner talk” -nimistä ilmiötä on aikaisemmin tutkittu melko laajaltikin eri näkökulmien kautta.
