Restrictions for reimbursement of interferon-free direct-acting antiviral drugs for HCV infection in Europe

2018

All-oral direct-acting antiviral drugs (DAAs) for hepatitis C virus, which have response rates of 95% or more, represent a major clinical advance. However, the high list price of DAAs has led many governments to restrict their reimbursement. We reviewed the availability of, and national criteria for, interferon-free DAA reimbursement among countries in the European Union and European Economic Area, and Switzerland. Reimbursement documentation was reviewed between Nov 18, 2016, and Aug 1, 2017. Primary outcomes were fibrosis stage, drug or alcohol use, prescriber type, and HIV co-infection restrictions. Among the 35 European countries and jurisdictions included, the most commonly reimbursed …

EUROHERIT Policy Brief I: Increasing the Benefits and Transparency of the European Heritage Label

2018

The European Heritage Label (EHL) is the EU’s flagship heritage action. It focuses on promoting the European significance of the cultural heritage and a sense of belonging among the European citizenry. The nature of the action and its proclaimed aims in identity politics necessitate wide public engagement, openness, and transparency. Compared to the European Capital of Culture (ECOC) action and the UNESCO Heritage Lists, the EHL application process has poor transparency, as the applications of the labeled sites are not made public or accessible to other heritage professionals, managers, policymakers, researchers, or public audiences. To increase the transparency of the EU heritage policy in…

The document addresses the importance of hydrogen as a clean energy source and its role in the transition to a sustainable energy system. It also examines the European Union's strategy regarding hydrogen and highlights the initiatives and policies implemented to promote its …

Coastal high-frequency radars in the Mediterranean - Part 2: Applications in support of science priorities and societal needs

2022

The Mediterranean Sea is a prominent climate-change hot spot, with many socioeconomically vital coastal areas being the most vulnerable targets for maritime safety, diverse met-ocean hazards and marine pollution. Providing an unprecedented spatial and temporal resolution at wide coastal areas, high-frequency radars (HFRs) have been steadily gaining recognition as an effective land-based remote sensing technology for continuous monitoring of the surface circulation, increasingly waves and occasionally winds. HFR measurements have boosted the thorough scientific knowledge of coastal processes, also fostering a broad range of applications, which has promoted their integration in coastal ocean …

2021

This work carries out the delimitation of the exemption in the European V.A.T., of the benefits made to its members, by the autonomous groups of people, highlighting the distinctions made by the community case law, with particular attention to the subjective element of the exemption.

Statistical upscaling of ecosystem CO2 fluxes across the terrestrial tundra and boreal domain: Regional patterns and uncertainties

2021

The regional variability in tundra and boreal carbon dioxide (CO2) fluxes can be high, complicating efforts to quantify sink-source patterns across the entire region. Statistical models are increasingly used to predict (i.e., upscale) CO2 fluxes across large spatial domains, but the reliability of different modeling techniques, each with different specifications and assumptions, has not been assessed in detail. Here, we compile eddy covariance and chamber measurements of annual and growing season CO2 fluxes of gross primary productivity (GPP), ecosystem respiration (ER), and net ecosystem exchange (NEE) during 1990–2015 from 148 terrestrial high-latitude (i.e., tundra and boreal) sites to a…

Hetkinen! Ei kai se vain ollut Minuuttivalssi? : pianistien nuottikuvasta tekemät nopeat päätelmät

2016

Tässä maisterintutkielmassa selvitettiin, millaisia havaintoja eksperttitason pianistit pystyvät tekemään 500 ms:n aikana nuottikuvasta. Aineiston keruuta varten suunniteltiin nuotinlukukoe, jossa koehenkilöille esitettiin yhteensä yhdeksän kolmen rivin mittaista katkelmaa kolmelta eri tyylikaudelta (barokki, klassismi ja romantiikka) peräisin olevista pianoteoksista. Jokaisen näytteen jälkeen koehenkilöt saivat kuvailla omin sanoin tekemiään havaintoja. Lisäksi he esittivät arvion kunkin teoksen edustamasta tyylikaudesta. Kokeeseen osallistui 25 eksperttitason pianistia, joista 4 henkilöä oli suorittanut musiikin ylemmän korkea-koulututkinnon, 11 alemman korkeakoulututkinnon, 8 opiskeli pa…

Perceptual Self-Awareness in Seneca, Augustine, and Olivi

2013

This article traces the philosophical idea of self-perception from the times of ancient Stoicism to the thirteenth century by analyzing the views of Seneca, Augustine, and Olivi. The central argument is that they defend the same idea according to which self-preservation and the appropriate use of one’s body requires awareness thereof, despite the obvious contextual differences and the uncertainty of direct historical connections between the authors. They think that this kind of self-awareness does not belong only to human beings, because irrational animals need to perceive their bodies, the functions of their bodily parts, and to perceive themselves as living beings in order to act appropri…
