Three novel synthetic amides of adipic acid protect Capsicum anuum plants against the necrotrophic pathogen Alternaria solani

2003

Three novel amides of adipic acid, 5-carbamoil ethyl pentanoate (N1), 5-(2-furfurylmethylcarbamoil) ethyl pentanoate (N2) and 5-(3-aminopropylcarbamoil) ethyl pentanoate (N3) were synthesized and their resistance-inducing activity was studied on pepper (Capsicum annuum) plants. Treatment with low doses of each amide protected pepper plants against the pathogen Alternaria solani, N1 being the most effective. Although their mode of action is still unknown, prechallenge studies demonstrated the induction of the phenylpropanoid pathway and an antisenescence effect. These effects were previously shown for other mixtures and derivatives of adipic acid. These new chemicals showed no antimicrobial …

High efficiency joint CZE determination of sugars and acids in vegetables and fruits

2012

In this work, an improved CE method for the medium-throughput determination of main organic acids (oxalate, malate, citrate), the amino acid glutamate and the sugars fructose, glucose and sucrose in several food matrices is described. These compounds have been identified as key components in the taste intensity of fruit and vegetable crops. Using a running buffer with 20 mM 2,6-pyridine dicarboxylic acid pH 12.1 and 0.1% hexadimethrine bromide, replacing it every 5 h to avoid pH decrease, and optimizing capillary conditioning between runs with 58 mM SDS during 2 min at 20 psi, it is possible to effectively quantify these compounds while increasing medium throughput repeatability. This proce…

Effect of Ti(IY) on some indicators of physiological activity inCapsicum annuum, L.

1994

SummaryPaprika pepper (Capsicum annuum, L., cv. Negral) plants grown in a greenhouse were supplied Ti(IV) ascorbate through the roots or through leaves. Biomass production, peroxidase (donor: H2O, oxidoreductase; EC 1.11.1.7) activity, and malic acid, starch and chlorophyll concentrations were determined in different plant organs. It was observed that Ti increased the concentration of some of the metabolites studied and promoted both peroxidase activity and biomass production. The profitable effect of the Ti treatments could occur because they enhance the availability of other nutrients. This effect could be due to the low redox potential of the Ti+3/Ti+4 system that catalyzes the activity …

Natchniony przez Boga skutecznie uleczy... Przypadek Jana Fabisiaka

2019

The text was focused on alternative medicine. Its many different forms and methods were pointed out as a means of this way of treatment. Following that, the author described one of these methods which assumed curing by praying, outlining the fimction of belief and its effectiveness which was experienced by Jan Fabisiak. He is a person who allegedly, as an effect of praying to Jesus, was inspired and pushed to activities resulting in preparing a medication madę of hot chilli peppers. The specimen, to all appearances, cured his wife from stornach cancer and pushed Fabisiak to propagate the idea and the recipe for this substance in web. This part describes its effects and behaviors of the web …

Detection of Parietaria Mottle Virus by RT-qPCR: An Emerging Virus Native of Mediterranean Area That Undermine Tomato and Pepper Production in Southe…

2021

Parietaria mottle virus (PMoV) is considered an emerging virus in many countries of the Mediterranean basin, especially on tomato and pepper crops. Symptoms on tomato leaves and fruits can be easily confused with those induced by cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) with necrogenic satellite RNA (CMV-satRNA), tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) or tomato mosaic virus (ToMV). Mixed infection of these viruses has been also reported in some tomato cultivars, with an increase in the complexity of the symptoms and severity of the disease. Although a specific serum and riboprobes have been produced, nowadays no sensitive diagnostic methods are available for the rapid PMoV detection. Here, we have developed a…

The influence of backslopping on lactic acid bacteria diversity in tarhana fermentation

2020

Tarhana is produced at batch systems in which the microbiota has changed accordingly to the microbial load from ingredients. In order to stabilize the microbiota, the effects of backslopping carried out under different temperature regimes (25 and 30 °C), pH (3.70 and 4.00) and inoculation rates (5, 10 and 15%) on lactic acid bacteria (LAB) diversity were determined in tarhana dough. LAB and Total Aerobic Mesophilic Bacteria (TAMB) numbers increased in all tarhana dough samples subjected to backslopping. Temperature and pH significantly affected the microbiological diversity of tarhana whereas the different inoculation rates did not. Tarhana dough showed complex tarhana microbiota following …

Report of the Scientific Committee of the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) on the safe use of three aqueous solutions of hydrogen…

2020

* This record is given in both English and Spanish. The company Peroxychem Spain S.L.U. has requested a safety assessment of the use of three aqueous solutions of hydrogen peroxide, acetic acid and peracetic acid as processing aids. 1-Hydroxy ethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid (HEDP) was used as a stabiliser. The proposed use is the antibacterial treatment of water used to wash citrus fruits and peppers in processing plants. When this water is disinfected, it can be reused for the consecutive washing of fruits and vegetables through a recirculating system, maintaining it in appropriate conditions and thus reducing water usage. These are the same aqueous solutions previously assessed by the AE…

Rethinking Vygotskian Cultural-Historical Theory in Light of Pepperian Root Metaphor Theory : Dynamic Interplay of the Organicism and Contextualism

2016

This article examines Vygotskian cultural-historical theory by putting it into dialogue with Stephen Pepper's root metaphor theory. I focus on Vygotsky's insistence on the dialectical unity of the phylogenetic and ontogenetic domains in ontogenesis, which he articulated in his account of how the natural-psychological and cultural-psychological lines of development merge with the emergence of speeching in ontogenesis. I compare Vygotsky's two genetic domains and Pepper's world hypotheses of organicism and contextualism. I argue that Vygotsky transcended what is often thought of as a fundamental dichotomy between organicism and contextualism. In accomplishing this effective reconciliation, Vy…

Developing a metatheoretical framework for second language development : a cultural-historical theory and dynamic systems theory perspective

2017

The main aim of this article-based dissertation is to construct and articulate a dialectical metatheoretical architecture for the study of second language development termed Purposive-Historical Systems Theory (PHiST) invoking, inter alia, the axiomatic imperatives of dynamic systems theory (DST), Vygotskian cultural-historical theory (CHT), and Pepperian root metaphor theory (RMT). Specifically, it primarily purports, first, to demonstrate the tenability of a dialectical synthesis of DST and CHT; second, to philosophize on the fundamental contours of PHiST; third, to apply a novel metatheoretical perspective, as a quintessential example, to reconceptualizing the seminal construct of the Zo…
