Rural Children’s Perceptions of Parental Involvement in Their Education in Pakistan

Drawing from focus group discussions, this study reports 40 school-aged children’s (12–14 years, boys and girls) perceptions of parental involvement in the context of a developing country with a collectivist culture. The results indicate that despite parental interference, adherence to local customs, poverty, and illiteracy, children felt encouraged by their parents through strategies that reinforced their motivation to continue their education. Extended families’ educated members can also compensate for parents being unable to support their children in learning. The study highlights the role of the socio-cultural context in understanding parental involvement. peerReviewed

Wprowadzenie: Celem badań było zweryfikowanie związku między częstotliwością i ilością spożywania alkoholu a postawą studentów wobec picia alkoholu. Materiał i metody: W poprzecznych badaniach ankietowych, z wykorzystaniem kwestionariusza PBS „Studenci 2004”, uczestniczyło 908 studentów drugiego roku studiów politechnicznych (w tym 30% kobiet) w wieku od 19 do 36 lat (M = 21,23; SD = 1,26). Seeing Gravity: Gait Adaptations to Visual and Physical Inclines – A Virtual Reality Study

Using advanced virtual reality technology, we demonstrate that exposure to virtual inclinations visually simulating inclined walking induces gait modulations in a manner consistent with expected gravitational forces (i.e., acting upon a free body), suggesting vision-based perception of gravity. The force of gravity critically impacts the regulation of our movements. However, how humans perceive and incorporate gravity into locomotion is not well understood.
