Students’ agency profiles in relation to student-perceived teaching practices in university courses
2020
This study addresses the gap in our understanding of the role of pedagogy in agency construction among higher education students. In the present study, profiles of students’ agency experiences were identified and analysed with respect to the students’ perceptions of teaching practices in their courses (i.e., student-centred learning activities, forms of instruction, and student-teacher roles). The Agency of University Students (AUS) Scale (Jääskelä et al., 2017) was used to assess the students’ experiences of their personal, relational, and participatory resources of agency. Agency profiles were found to be associated with students’ perceptions of teaching practices in the courses. The find…
Influence of the learning environment on the representational strategies of middle school music students: an intervention-based study
2015
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a hypermedia learning environment on middle school students' meta-representational competence (MRC) in the domain of music. Particularly, we aimed at determining whether an educational intervention influenced the accuracy with which middle school students matched sounds (sonic fragments) to symbols (graphic representations). The students were randomly allocated to the experimental condition. An intervention was set up so that the experimental group students (E) were provided with scaffolding aimed at enhancing their use of constructive resources to generate representations and their critical capabilities to judge them. On the other han…
Sensory testing in new product development: working with children
2015
Abstract This chapter aims at briefly reviewing applications of sensory descriptive testing methods with children, as well as their limits in relation to the cognitive development of children. Children’s sensory perceptions and preferences may differ from those of adults, which may make working directly with children a must for successful product development, at least at some stages of product development. However, most reported studies with children have characterized their preferences. Some studies have used discrimination tests and ranking tasks to gain knowledge about differences among products, or about sensory abilities development. A much smaller number of studies have involved child…
Matemātikas mācību grāmatas Zahlenbuch 4 iespējas studentu komunikācijas prasmju attīstībā
2022
Globalizācija, cita starpā, ir likusi mūsu pasaulei kļūt arvien nestabilākai un padarīt nākotni grūti prognozējamu. Tādējādi daudzas organizācijas un pētnieki aicina pielāgot izglītību, lai labāk sagatavotu skolēnus nākotnei, attīstot 21. gadsimta prasmes. Viena no svarīgākajām prasmēm, kuras izglītojamie attīsta, ir komunikācijas prasmes. Ņemot vērā, ka prasmes jāattīsta visos mācību priekšmetos, šī pētījuma mērķis ir noskaidrot, cik lielā mērā matemātikas mācību grāmata Zahlenbuch 4 sniedz skolēniem iespējas attīstīt komunikācijas prasmes.
"I could give up many things but not that" : teachers' and pupils' experiences of using the European Language Portfolio in assessment
2015
Arviointi on olennainen osa opetusta ja oppimista kouluissa. Kielitaidon arviointiin vaikuttavat käsitykset kielitaidosta ja aikojen saatossa kielitaidon arviointi on muuttunut lähes mekaanisesta kielitaidon osa-alueiden mittaamisesta monipuolisempaan kielenkäytön arviointiin (ks. esim. Rea-Dickins 2012: 12). Perinteisen kielitaidon testauksen juuret ovat kuitenkin yhä syvällä arviointikulttuurissamme ja vasta viime vuosikymmeninä on alettu painottaa testeille vaihtoehtoisten arviointimetodien tärkeyttä. Johtava ajatus nykypäivän kouluarvioinnissa on, että kaiken arvioinnin tulisi edistää oppimista. Lisäksi oppilaiden tulisi olla aktiivisesti osallisina arvioinnissa. Yksi monipuolinen työka…
Cuerpos de energía: Formas alternativas de ser-en-el-mundo
2020
Based on an ethnographic approach, this paper explores how members of a new age spiritual movement known as ?Llave Mariana? (LLM) build and experience their bodies. At the same time, it develops a thick description of their ritual practices and later it analyzes, delving fundamentally into the phenomenological perspective, how these members shape and transform their forms of self-perception, experience, and representation of others and the environment. Finally, it considers the implications these spiritual practices have in the search and consolidation of alternative ways of being-in-the-world
ACTO II / ACT II Mujeres / Women ¿Es gay la música de Chopin? Aspectos de la recepción de la música de Chopin en el siglo XIX
2021
Considering that it is difficult, if not impossible, for an analysis of Chopin?s music to unmask some aspects of his private life (such as an alleged sexual and affective attraction for individuals of his own sex), we can however argue that, throughout the 19th century, a connection was established between his work and a ?feminine universe.? That connection might have had implications in the way in which the feminized image of its author was constructed. The analysis of certain aesthetic and stylistic traits of Chopin?s music can help understand the causes of that perception.
Identifying Critical Determinants of ‘Digital Customer Services’ Usage – An Exploratory Study
2019
Digital technology has reinvented retail business as well as commerce. This study aims to examine consumers’ perception and usage of digital customer services (DCS) and investigate three significant post-adoption and marketing consequences: simplicity, awareness, and usefulness. Using a purposeful sampling technique, 10 semi-structured, in-depth interviews were conducted with banking customers in Finland in January 2019. The research findings suggest that simplicity regarding DCS occupies a key position in their prolonged use, while awareness and usability are also important. This study offers some valuable theoretical and managerial implications and suggests an agenda for future research. …
Sense experience and differentiation : Husserl on bodily awareness
2023
This article outlines the basic ingredients of Husserl’s theory of bodily awareness. It first analyses the concepts of hyletic and kinesthetic sensibility, and illustrates the interwovenness and equiprimordiality of Me and not-Me in Husserl’s account. Second, it shows how the concept of the lived body emerges from this complex sensible foundation. Thirdly, it argues that, as the area of intersection between the Me and the not-Me, bodily awareness is the initial locus of differentiation between Me and not-Me: an area where the experiential distinction between the Me and the not-Me is constantly negotiated. peerReviewed
Timbre and affect dimensions: Evidence from affect and similarity ratings and acoustic correlates of isolated instrument sounds
2012
considerable effort has been made towards understanding how acoustic and structural features contribute to emotional expression in music, but relatively little attention has been paid to the role of timbre in this process. Our aim was to investigate the role of timbre in the perception of affect dimensions in isolated musical sounds, by way of three behavioral experiments. In Experiment 1, participants evaluated perceived affects of 110 instrument sounds that were equal in duration, pitch, and dynamics using a three-dimensional affect model (valence, energy arousal, and tension arousal) and preference and emotional intensity. In Experiment 2, an emotional dissimilarity task was applied to a…
