USING THE ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (EMS) TO CONTROL THE IMPLEMENTATION AND EMERGENCE OF GREEN STRATEGIES.

2009

To respond to the ecological challenges of the new century and their Environmental and Social Responsability, more and more companies adopt the Environmental Management System (EMS). The objective of this thesis is to analyze how this management system is used in French companies for implement their ''intended" green strategies and to explore the new green strategies. To answer this problematic, we mobilized two theoretical frameworks during this research: the New Institutionalism in Organizational Analysis (DiMaggio and Powell, 1983, 1991 and Hasselbladh Kallinikos, 2000) and Levers of control model (Simons, 1995). Then, our research methodology is composed of three phases succeeding: an e…

Effects of Entrepreneurial Orientation and Passion for Work on Performance Variables in Sports Clubs

2021

Entrepreneurial orientation and passion for work have been widely studied due to their effects on the behaviour and attitude of management teams in the short- and long-term. However, despite the influences of these variables on the sustainability and survival of an entity, there is a gap when considering the effects of these two performance variables in sports organisations. Therefore, the main objectives of this study were to understand the influences of entrepreneurial orientation and passion for work on service quality and sporting performance. To this end, 199 Spanish non-profit sports clubs were analysed using instruments with good psychometric properties. Data analysis was carried out…

Cost optimal analysis of lighting retrofit scenarios in educational buildings in Italy

2017

Abstract The European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) recast proposes, a comparative methodology to calculate cost-optimal levels of minimum energy performance requirements for buildings. This paper presents a method able to select the best retrofit action for lighting system, selectively analysing the daylight conditions and applying the cost-optimal methodology for different scenarios proposed for two existing educational buildings located in Italy. With the aim to improve both energy efficient and visual comfort conditions, the retrofit scenarios include lighting solutions with different combinations. They consider the replacement of lamps with more efficient lighting so…

The effect of musical tempo on video game performance

2012

There is little research on music and audio in video games. What theory exists relies heavily upon borrowing concepts from similar fields such as film music. The empirical research conducted has been varied in scope, but small in number. This thesis explores the current state of theory and research in video game music and audio. In order to investigate if music can affect performance in a video game, an experiment was conducted. Participants were asked to play the popular video game Tetris multiple times to music of varying tempi. The performance of each participant for every game played was recorded and compared across the conditions. Although no statistically significant differences in pe…

Tension design of contemporary orchestral music in different performances of "Sula" by Helena Tulve

2009

Cognitive musicology is a psychological domain of music which attempts to proximity several interpretations as notation in a score, analysis, performance, and perception. The previous study of the authors developes the interdisciplinary analysis method of tension design combining music theoretical and perception approaches (investigating contemporary music). In this study we observe different performances of „Sula“ (Thaw, 1999) by Estonian composer Helena Tulve (1972). We investigate the impact of performance style of different conductors (Toomas Vavilov, Paul Mägi) and orchestras (ERSO, Orchestra of Estonian National Opera) on the perception-based tension design of the piece and how it is …

Strategic responses of medium sized firms: The role of TMT’s perceptions and characteristics in decision making processes

2017

Many decisions made by the organization’s top management team (hereafter called indifferently TMT or top management team) have a high likelihood of failure (Nutt, 1999). This situation might be shocking but indeed, it is much more common than one might think (Bloom et al., 2012). In fact, we can easily realize this reality when reading the current business press where we will probably be confronted with several cases of failures that have been caused by any type of TMT decisions. Of course, we will also see cases of success, exemplifying managers and recipes of good practices (e.g., Eide et al., 2016; Schrage, 2013); but these will be minor. Thus, as Bloom et al. (2012) state, the group of …
