Internationalization pathways of family SMEs: psychic distance as a focal point

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate how psychic distance affects the internationalization process, foreign market entry (FME), and entry mode choice of Finnish small and medium-sized family enterprises (family SMEs) operating in France. Design/methodology/approach – The paper reports findings from an in-depth case study covering four Finnish manufacturing family SMEs operating in the French market. Vaikka kaksikielisyyttä perheissä on tutkittu laajalti, identiteetin rakentumisen näkökulmasta tutkimuksia on suhteellisen vähän. In this article we explore the effects that new information and communication technologies (ICTs) have on family relations in Finland. The idea of ‘new connectivities’ works as a starting point for the study directing attention to ICT-mediated forms of being together with distant family members. The research data consists of 22 student reports encompassing a total of 133 informants from extended Finnish families. Physical activity and motor competence in 4-8-year old children : results of a family-based cluster-randomized controlled physical activity trial

This thesis addresses the following research questions: 1) what are the intensities of physical activities that are typically considered to develop motor competence in children, 2) how is accelerometer-derived physical activity (PA) associated with motor competence (MC), 3) what is the effect of family-based PA counseling on children’s PA and MC, and 4) does initial parental support of a child’s PA moderate the counseling effect on the child’s PA?
