Evaluation of the Clinical Efficacy of Potassium nitrate Desensitizing Mouthwash and a Toothpaste in the Treatment of Dentinal Hypersensitivity

2012

Potassium Nitrate has been used as a desensitizing agent to treat dentinal hypersensitivity. The effectiveness of a potassium nitrate is evaluated both in the form of a toothpaste and a mouthwash in a clinical study. Thirty patients were assessed using evaporative stimuli and thermal stimuli and response was evaluated using Visual Analogue Scale at baseline, at 2 weeks and 4 weeks. The patients were divided into. group I: fifteen patients who used toothpaste containing 5% potassium nitrate, sodium fluoride, xylitol and triclosan, group II: Fifteen patients who used mouthwash containing 3% potassium nitrate, sodium fluoride, xylitol and triclosan . The results of both the assessment methods …

Influence of systemic strontium ranelate on the progression and as adjunctive therapy for the nonsurgical treatment of experimental periodontitis

2021

Made available in DSpace on 2022-05-01T11:39:06Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2021-01-01 Universidade Estadual Paulista Background: Strontium Ranelate (SR) presents overlapping osteoanabolic and anti-resorptive activity. However, the effects of SR on the progression of periodontitis through the alveolar bone and its potential applicability as adjunctive therapy to scaling and root planning remain poorly accessed. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of systemic (SR) both on the progression of experimental periodontitis (EP) and as adjunctive therapy to SRP. Material and Methods: Eighty male rats were divided into four groups (n=20): EP-PSS: EP induction and …

Is Khat (Catha edulis) chewing a risk factor for periodontal diseases? : a systematic review

2017

Background Khat (Catha edulis) chewing is a highly prevalent habit in the Arabian Peninsula and East Africa, and has recently spread to Western countries. The association between khat chewing and oral mucosal lesions is well documented in the literature. However, there is no concrete evidence on the association between khat chewing and periodontal disease. The purpose of this systematic review was to analyze the influence of khat chewing on periodontal health. Material and methods A literature search of PubMed, Scopus and Web of Sciences databases was carried out to identify relevant articles published from 1990 to May 2017. The inclusion criteria were all clinical studies that assessed the…

Peripheral ameloblastoma: A case report

2020

Background Ameloblastoma is a rare tumor which develops from odontogenic epithelium and its remnants and it occurs in the jaws. Peripheral ameloblastomas are rare and benign extraooseous ameloblastomas which effects soft tissues. This case report declares a peripheral ameloblastoma which is a rare type of ameloblastoma. Material and methods 34 year old female patient referred with a complaint of a gingival growth at right lower premolar area. A firm and granular surfaced gingival growth with the color of pink and red and having 1.5x1 cm sizes was observed at the mentioned area. With an incision from lower right second incisor tooth to lower right second molar tooth a flap from bone was made…

Performance of the dentogingival junction with mta and biodentine on the treatment of invasive cervical resorptions. A literature review and case rep…

2021

Invasive cervical resorption (ICR) is an uncommon phenomenon (0.1%), however, it represents a challenge to the structural and functional integrity of the dentogingival junction, as well as a risk for the survival of the affected tooth. They are characterized by their location and invasive character, being able to appear in any tooth of the permanent dentition. It shows up after the damage to the cervical insertion apparatus, leaving the pulp without participation in the origin of the lesion. They may appear just below the junctional epithelium or at a more apical level. The MTA® (Dentsply, Tulsa dental, Tulsa OK) and the Biodentine® (Septodent, Saint Maur of Fossés, France) are two biomater…

Updated secondary implant stability data of two dental implant systems. A retrospective cohort study

2017

Background At present, updated secondary implant stability data generated by actual versions of resonance frequency analysis (RFA) and mobility measurement (MM) electronic devices of 2 different implant systems with actual manufactured surfaces seem to lack and/or are incomplete. Material and Methods Secondary implant stability data based on both RFA and MM measurements were collected and analyzed from 44 formerly treated patients (24 f, 20 m) that received either Ankylos Cellplus (Ø3.5mm) (A) (n=36) or Straumann regular neck SLA tissue level (Ø4.1mm) (S) (n=37) implants in posterior positions of both jawbones (total number= 72). These results were interpretated in view of formerly publishe…

Evaluation of holy basil mouthwash as an adjunctive plaque control agent in a four day plaque regrowth model

2014

Objectives: Various antibacterial and antiplaque agents are used in chemical plaque control but none are without their shortcomings. Chlorhexidine considered a gold standard, also has an array of side effects. To overcome these, numerous herbal extracts have been tried and tested and one among them is holy basil. The present study evaluated the antibacterial efficacy of holy basil in vitro against some periodontopathogens and its antiplaque ef fect in vivo. Study Design: Thirty periodontally healthy volunteers were randomly divided into three groups and refrained from all mechanical oral hygiene measures for 4 days and used one of the randomly assigned mouthwash (1- chlor - hexidine; 2- hol…
