Physicochemical Characterization, Antioxidant Activity, and Phenolic Compounds of Hawthorn (Crataegus spp.) Fruits Species for Potential Use in Food …
2020
Hawthorn belongs to the Crataegus genus of the Rosaceae family and is an important medicinal plant. Due to its beneficial effects on the cardiovascular system and its antioxidant and antimicrobial activity hawthorn has recently become quite a popular herbal medicine in phytotherapy and food applications. In this study, physicochemical characterization (color parameters, pH, titratable acidity, total soluble solids, soluble carbohydrate, total carotenoid, total phenols, and flavonoid contents), antioxidant activity (by ferric-reducing antioxidant power, FRAP assay), and quantification of some individual phenolic compounds of fruits of 15 samples of different hawthorn species (Crataegus spp.)…
Digital and innovation skills in health care professionals in Europe
2020
Abstract Background Rising life expectancy and ageing population are current phenomena that European society is facing and these are challenges for the European healthcare systems. To face them, several e-health solutions are already designed to optimize resources of the healthcare provider system. However, most of them are not being implemented or deployed. Some of the reasons are the lack of digital skills and innovation readiness in staff, and existing barriers to changing organizational practices. Objectives The DISH project (601008-EPP-1-2018-1-DK-EPPKA2-SSA) will develop 3 concepts to improve the digitalization of healthcare staff to help them in the use of e-health solutions already …
Caseicin 80: purification and characterization of a new bacteriocin from Lactobacillus casei
1990
When grown in complex or synthetic media, Lactobacillus casei B 80 synthesizes a mitomycin C-inducible polypeptide with very specific bactericidal activity against the sensitive strain Lactobacillus casei B 109. The amount of secreted bacteriocin in the culture solution was low, about 1 mg/l. The bacteriocin which we called caseicin 80, was also detectable in cell extracts, although only 2% of the total activity was retained intracellularly. Caseicin 80 was concentrated by ultrafiltration and purified by cation exchange chromatography with Cellulose SE-23 and Superose. The molecular weight was in the range of M r=40,000–42,000 and the isoelectric point was pH 4.5.
Die chronisch rekurrierende multifokale Osteomyelitis (CRMO)
1998
Chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO) is an unusual clinical entity. More than 200 cases are described in the literature and it is presented here with special reference to its radiological aspects. It is an acquired disease of the skeleton which occurs predominantly during childhood and adolescence. About ten per cent of cases begin in early or, rarely, in later adult life. This variant is described here for the first time and is discussed as "adult CRMO". The underlying pathology is a bland, predominantly lympho-plasma cellular osteomyelitis which is self-limiting and leads to bone sclerosis (Garre). It probably involves an abnormal immune process which follows an infection but…
La vita e l’azione. Il carattere moderno del biografico italiano
2022
Usually, fictional biography – both written or filmed – seems to trace back the distinctive aspect of a certain life only into the sphere of the activity characterizing it. In this sense, the biographical fiction considers an individual life as an exemplary moment to analyze to superimposition between oeuvre and operation, action and production, always linkable to an end. But what happens when the center of the narration is occupied by the absence of action, of any actions? Through Giorgio Agamben’s interpretation of Aristotle’s categories of oeuvre and action, this paper aims to define a paradigm of inoperosity in Italian biographical cinema to highlight its peculiar modern character and s…
LE IPERNATRIEMIE NELL’ANZIANO
2015
Zenker's Diverticulum in Forestier Disease: Chance or Causality?
2021
Zenker's diverticulum is an acquired sac-like outpouching of the mucosa and submucosa layers originating at the pharyngoesophageal junction. The predominant symptom of Zenker's diverticulum is dysphagia. Videofluoroscopy confirms the diagnosis. Forestier disease is a clinical entity characterized by ossification of anterolateral vertebral ligament and anterior osteophyte formation along the anterolateral spinal column. Its etiopathogenesis remains unknown and common symptoms are dysphagia, dysphonia and airway obstruction. The objective of this study is to identify a pathophysiological correlation between Forestier disease and the onset of Zenker's diverticulum.A retrospective observational…
