Psychological Well-Being and Career Indecision in Emerging Adulthood: The Moderating Role of Hardiness
2016
Choosing a career path is an important developmental task during the transition from adolescence to adulthood. However, many emerging adults (EAs)-individuals between 18 and 29 years of age (Inguglia et al., 2016)-struggle to get their career decision-making processes under way because they need a long time to explore various possible career directions (Arnett, 2004; Miller & Rottinghaus, 2014). In particular, this condition concerns EAs who are never employed and is traditionally associated with the construct of career indecision (Gati et al., 2011; Gati, Krausz, & Osipow, 1996), referring to the difficulties that can slow or even stop the career decision-making process.Among such difficul…

Mentoring of new teachers as a contested practice: Supervision, support and collaborative self-development
2014
Abstract This article examines contested practices of mentoring of newly qualified teachers within and between Australia (New South Wales), Finland and Sweden. Drawing on empirical evidence from a variety of studies, we demonstrate three archetypes of mentoring: supervision, support and collaborative self-development. Using the theory of practice architectures, we show that (1) these three forms of mentoring represent three different projects: (a) assisting new teachers to pass through probation, (b) traditional mentoring as support, and (c) peer-group mentoring; and (2) these different projects involve and imply quite different practice architectures in the form of different material-econo…
PROMOTING OF SELF-DIRECTED LEARNING IN COOPERATION WITH THE PARENTS FOR CHILDREN IN THE PRESCHOOL AGE
2015
Successful learning process in pre-school requires collaboration between children, educators and parents, whose primary goal is individual understanding of each child to promote his academic performance and personal development as a whole. This paper shows a pre-scientific and theoretical background of self-directed learning in preschool, as well as developed and theoretically substantiated child initiative research method "New friend". Particular attention is given to the promotion of the child's initiative, which is crucial in the process of self-directed learning. The empirical study of children's initiatives shows analysis of collaboration with the parents. A qualitative study reveals p…
Group psychotherapy in Italy
2015
This article describes the history and the prevailing orientations of group psychotherapy in Italy (psychoanalytically oriented, psychodrama, CBT groups) and particularly group analysis. Provided free of charge by the Italian health system, group psychotherapy is growing, but its expansion is patchy. The main pathways of Italian training in the different group psychotherapy orientations are also presented. Clinical-theoretical elaboration on self development, psychopathology related to group experiences, and the methodological attention paid to objectives and methods in different clinical groups are issues related to group therapy in Italy. Difficulties in the relationship between research …
Efecto moderador de la institucionalización en las actividades de la vida diaria y bienestar en el envejecimiento

The present article aims to provide an insight into the life story of a computer-game addicted adolescent. Here, the relationship between the symptom game addiction, the family as a reference framework, the game's characteristics, as well as the subjective emotional state of the adolescent are of particular interest. An emphasis is also laid on the psychodynamically approached question of the impact of infantile and current relationship experiences (both within a family environment as well as with peers) on personal development. Last, still within a psychodynamic framework, we hope to provide a better understanding of the role of online computer-game addiction in the process of experiences …
The Art for the Disabled Scheme: Enhance Limb-disabled Students’ Social Inclusion through Integration of Art and Charity
2015
This paper explored how a small group of limb-disabled students enhanced their social inclusion through participation in the Art for the Disabled Scheme, a long-term project aiming to help disabled young people through the integration of extracurricular art instruction and philanthropy. This research was conducted using qualitative case study method. The findings revealed the multiple benefits the disabled students reaped regarding their social inclusion enhancement: financial and material supports; mental well-being improvement; promotion for personal development; positive self and group identity building; and social development. The findings also demonstrated that the successful combinati…
Identity Formation, Personal Control Over Development, and Well-Being
2006
Individuals' conceptions of their personal goals have been studied in the psychology literature from different perspectives. In this chapter, the processes and implications of one's orientations and self-definitions were analyzed along two dimensions: one's sense of identity, and the self-percepts of autonomous control over development. Several researchers (e.g., Archer, 1989; Brandtstädter & Baltes-Götz, 1990; Pulkkinen & Rönkä, 1994) have concluded, on the basis of literature reviews and empirical findings, that adaptive capacities are associated with a clear sense of identity and personal control over development. Although any given cultural and historical context confines the possible a…
Engineering students’ conceptions of entrepreneurial learning as part of their education
2015
The purpose of this study was to examine what kinds of conceptions of entrepreneurial learning engineering students expressed in an entrepreneurship course integrated in their study programme. The data were collected during an entrepreneurship course in Estonia that was organised for fourth-year engineering students, using video-recorded group interviews (N = 48) and individual in-depth interviews (N = 16). As a result of the phenomenographic analysis, four qualitatively distinctive conceptions of entrepreneurial learning were discerned. Entrepreneurial learning was seen to involve (1) applying entrepreneurial ideas to engineering, (2) understanding entrepreneurial issues in a new way, (3) …
