Optimization of two-step techniques engineered for the preparation of polyamide 6 graphene oxide nanocomposites

Abstract Different processing conditions to achieve polyamide 6 (PA6)-graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposites were investigated. GO was pre-dispersed in PA6 by three different solvent-based methods and, further, melt processed to prepare nanocomposites at two different loading levels, namely 2 and 5 wt.%. The evolution of rheological and mechanical properties was analyzed by investigating eventual changes in the microstructure and polymer crystallinity, aiming at providing a detailed processing-structure-properties relationship for these systems.
On the blue phase structure of hydrogen-bonded liquid crystals via 19F NMR

Abstract 19 F NMR spectra are simulated for blue phase I of FPHG( St 1.5 ∗ Ap 1.5 ) based on a model of a double-twisted substructure inside cylinders that form a body-centred cubic lattice. A kinetic matrix is included to describe jump processes over quarter pitch lengths. Though the lines in the NMR spectra are broad and featureless, changes in the widths and positions with temperature are well described by the blue phase model structure. The spectra in the chiral nematic N∗ phase are also simulated. Dynamics in the BP I are found to be slower than in the N∗ phase.

In this work, Rhodiasolv® PolarClean was employed as a more sustainable solvent for the preparation of poly(vinylidene fluoride-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) flat sheet membranes via phase inversion technique by coupling vapour induced phase separation (VIPS) and non-solvent induced phase separation (NIPS) processes. Preliminary calculations based on Hansen solubility parameters well predicted the solubilization of the polymer in the selected solvent. The pulmonary surfactant film spanning the inner alveolar surface prevents alveolar collapse during the end-exhalation and reduces the work of breathing. Nanoparticles (NPs) present in the atmosphere or nanocarriers targeted through the pulmonary route for medical purposes challenge this biological barrier. Quantitative phase imaging by single-shot Hilbert-Huang phase microscopy.

We propose a novel single-shot Hilbert-Huang transform-based algorithm applied to digital holographic microscopy (DHM) for robust, fast, and accurate single-shot quantitative phase imaging in on-axis and off-axis configurations. Fringe pattern with possible defects and closed fringes are adaptively filtered and accurately phase demodulated using local fringe direction estimation. Experimental validation of the proposed techniques is presented as the DHM study of microbeads and red blood cells phase samples. Obtained results compare very favorably with the Fourier approach (off-axis) and temporal phase shifting (on-axis).
Impact of graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets in mixed- matrix membranes for removal of heavy metals from water

International audience; Removal of heavy metal ions from water is being a challenge and Polysulfone (PSf) membranes have shown great potential to remove them from contaminated solutions. In this work, the introduction of Graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets (g-C3N4) into PSf membranes was implemented to improve the permeability and separation performance of PSf membranes. g-C3N4 was incorporated into the membrane matrix via nonsolvent induced phase inversion method. The prepared mixed matrix membranes showed enhanced performances towards water filtration. We report on a novel algorithm for high-resolution quantitative phase imaging in a new concept of lensless holographic microscope based on single-shot multi-wavelength illumination. This new microscope layout, reported by Noom et al. along the past year and named by us as MISHELF (initials incoming from Multi-Illumination Single-Holographic-Exposure Lensless Fresnel) microscopy, rises from the simultaneous illumination and recording of multiple diffraction patterns in the Fresnel domain. Isomeric yield ratios for the odd-$A$ isotopes of $^{119-127}$Cd and $^{119-127}$In from 25-MeV proton-induced fission on natural uranium have been measured at the JYFLTRAP double Penning trap, by employing the Phase-Imaging Ion-Cyclotron-Resonance technique. With the significantly improved mass resolution of this novel method isomeric states separated by 140 keV from the ground state, and with half-lives of the order of 500 ms, could be resolved. In the heart of Auvergne (Puy-de-Dôme), the Late Neolithic settlement of Trémonteix is established beneath the Côtes de Clermont-Ferrand, a vast basalt plateau that dominates the north of the actual agglomeration. Within the framework of a rescue archaeology, an excavation conducted by Inrap, over 2588 m2 and has delivered several features and revealed a number of terraced constructions, dug into the bank of an ancient river bed. These are sheltered spaces (building 1) and artisanal activity zones, documented by pits and remains of occupation levels that were rich in finds.
