Long Term Results of Stanford V Regimen and Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) In 59 Patients (pts) with HD and HIV Infection (HD-HIV)
2010
Abstract Abstract 4827 Background: The introduction of HAART has significantly improved the outcome of pts with HD-HIV. However there are no data on the long term follow-up of HD-HIV pts treated with conventional chemotherapy (CT) regimens. In 2002, we reported the results of a prospective phase II study with the intensive 12-week CT with adjuvant radiotherapy (Stanford V) and concomitant HAART in 59 pts (Spina et al. Blood 2002;100:1984-1988). Methods: To analyze the long term outcome of patients included in the Stanford V and HAART protocol. Results: The median follow-up is 67months (range 3–156 months The 5-yr overall survival (OS), freedom from progression (FFP), disease free survival a…
A Phase II Study of Elacytarabine/Idarubicin As Second Course Remission-Induction in Patients with Acute Myeloid Leukemia Who Failed Cytarabine/Anthr…
2012
Abstract Abstract 46 Background Elacytarabine, a fatty acid derivative (elaidic acid ester) of cytarabine, has pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties that may lead to improved clinical outcomes (Adema et al., 2011) compared to cytarabine. A phase I study had established 1000 mg/m2/d continuous infusion on d 1 – 5 as a safe and effective dose of elacytarabine given in combination with idarubicin at 12 mg/m2/d IV d 1 – 3 (Giles et al., 2012). Mechanism of Action The mechanism of action is similar to cytarabine, but unlike cytarabine, plasma elimination half-life is long, intracellular distribution is prolonged and activity is independent of membrane nucleoside transporters. Resistance…
Supportive Efficacy Analyses for the Phase 3 Study of Temsirolimus Versus Investigator’s Choice Therapy for the Treatment of Patients with Relapsed o…
2008
Abstract Temsirolimus (Torisel®) is a specific inhibitor of the mTOR kinase with antitumor activity in patients with relapsed or refractory mantle cell lymphoma. In a phase 3, randomized, open-label study, patients treated with temsirolimus 175 mg weekly 3 times followed by 75 mg weekly (175/75-mg) had significantly longer progression-free survival (PFS) than those treated with investigator’s choice therapy (p-value temsirolimus: investigator’s choice = 0.0009; hazard ratio = 0.44; 97.5% CI = 0.25, 0.78; Hess et al. J Clin Oncol.2008, 28:abs 8513). Patients treated with temsirolimus 175 mg weekly 3 times followed by 25 mg weekly (175/25-mg) showed a trend towards longer PFS than those treat…
Randomized, Double-Blind Study of Sonidegib (Lde225) in Patients (Pts) with Advanced Basal Cell Carcinoma (Bcc)
2014
ABSTRACT Aim: The BOLT phase 2 study, comparing 2 doses of sonidegib, a hedgehog pathway inhibitor (HhPI), in pts with advanced BCC (aBCC; NCT01327053), met its primary endpoint of objective response rate ≥30% in both arms in analyses of data collected up to 6 mo after randomization of the last pt (June 28, 2013, cutoff; median follow-up [f/u], 13.9 mo; Migden, ASCO 2014). Associations of GLI1 (marker of Hh pathway activation) with clinical outcome (as of June 28, 2013) and updated 12-mo efficacy and safety data (Dec 31, 2013, cutoff; median f/u, 20.0 mo) are presented. Methods: Pts with locally advanced BCC (LaBCC; n = 194) not amenable to curative surgery or radiation or metastatic BCC (m…
Purification of Lindblad dynamics, geometry of mixed states and geometric phases
2015
We propose a nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation in a Hilbert space enlarged with an ancilla such that the partial trace of its solution obeys to the Lindblad equation of an open quantum system. The dynamics involved by this nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation constitutes then a purification of the Lindbladian dynamics. This nonlinear equation is compared with other Schr\"odinger like equations appearing in the theory of open systems. We study the (non adiabatic) geometric phases involved by this purification and show that our theory unifies several definitions of geometric phases for open systems which have been previously proposed. We study the geometry involved by this purification and show th…
Half-width plots, a simple tool to predict peak shape, reveal column kinetics and characterise chromatographic columns in liquid chromatography: Stat…
2013
Peak profiles in chromatography are characterised by their height, position, width and asymmetry; the two latter depend on the values of the left and right peak half-widths. Simple correlations have been found between the peak half-widths and the retention times. The representation of such correlations has been called half-width plots. For isocratic elution, the plots are parabolic, although often, the parabolas can be approximated to straight-lines. The plots can be obtained with the half-widths/retention time data for a set of solutes experiencing the same kinetics, eluted with a mobile phase at fixed or varying composition. When the analysed solutes experience different resistance to mas…
Revised recommendations of the Italian Society of Pediatrics about the general management of Kawasaki disease
2021
AbstractAim of these revised recommendations for the general management of Kawasaki disease is to encourage its prompter recognition and warrant the most appropriate therapy, based on ascertained scientific data, raising awareness of the complications related to misdiagnosis or delayed treatment. A set of 20 synthetic operative statements is herein provided, including the definition of Kawasaki disease, its protean presentations, clinical course and seminal treatment modalities of all disease phases. The application of these recommendations should improve prognosis of Kawasaki disease and prevent the progression to permanent vascular abnormalities, thereby diminishing morbidity and mortalit…
Comparative enantioseparation of planar chiral ferrocenes on polysaccharide‐based chiral stationary phases
2022
Planar chiral ferrocenes are well-known compounds that have attracted interest for application in synthesis, catalysis, material science, and medicinal chemistry for several decades. In spite of the fact that asymmetric synthesis procedures for obtaining enantiomerically enriched ferrocenes are available, sometimes, the accessible enantiomeric excess of the chiral products is unsatisfactory. In such cases and for resolution of racemic planar chiral ferrocenes, enantioselective high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) on polysaccharide-based chiral stationary phases (CSPs) has been used in quite a few literature articles. However, although moderate/high enantioselectivities have been ob…
Mass spectrometry of surfactant aggregates.
2012
In contrast with the enormous amount of literature produced during many decades in the field of surfactant aggregation in liquid, liquid crystalline and solid phases, only a few investigations concerning surfactant self-assembling in the gas phase as charged aggregates have been carried out until now. This lack of interest is disappointing in view of the remarkable theoretical and practical importance of the inherent knowledge. The absence of surfactant–solvent interactions makes it easier to study the role of surfactant–surfactant forces in determining their peculiar self-assembling features as well as the ability of these assemblies to incorporate selected solubilizate molecules. Thus, t…
Orientation and Dynamics of ZnO Nanorod Liquid Crystals in Electric Fields.
2010
ZnO nanorod polymer hybrids (i.e., ZnO nanorods coated with a block copolymer with a short anchor block (dopamine) and a longer solubilizing block of polystyrene (PS)) form liquid crystalline (LC) phases if they are dispersed at high concentration e.g., in a PS oligomer matrix. Due to the high mobility of the low T(g)-matrix the nanorod polymer hybrids show a switching behavior under an applied AC electric field. Hence, the orientation of the nanorod mesogens can be changed from planar (parallel to the substrate) to homeotropic (perpendicular) in full analogy to the switching of low molecular liquid crystals in an electric field. Dielectric measurements show that such a switching is mainly …
