This report deals with the semantics of genitive constructions (adnominal genitive) in Matean Voghberguthean as well as with the searches for rendering equivalents in Latvian. It is based on the method of paraphrase with one or more transformations – the propositions described by John Beekman and John Callow in their fundamental work Translating the Word of God. This method helps to clarify syntactical and logical relations in the word groups and to elucidate the meaning of the phrase. Ever since 1879, when Josef Hyrtl first formulated his thesis that the names of the cephalic and basilic veins, as applied to the arm veins, were of Arab origin, a discussion began between philologists and historians of medicine as the former defended the Greek source of such denominations whilst the latter shared the view of the Viennese anatomist. The author, after making a critical review of the -relevant works published hitherto, unearthes a text drawn from a Persian manuscript dating back to the 15th century that, in his view, confirms the rigthness of the Viennese anatomist's thesis.

Having assessed the various explanations, the first documents from previous studies and questions of orality and writing in the language's initial stages, the second part of the study (II) of Latin's initial /f/ sound weakening to (h) in that period provides a selection ofa documentary corpus from the VIII to the XII century, which has a geographical span also related to the Basque language in Castille and La Rioja. The first part of this study (I) deals with Latin's initial /f/ sound weakening to (h) and its subsequent loss in the language's initial stages. We assess the various explanations which have been proposed for this aspiration: a Latin dialectal feature, an internal evolution of the phonological system, a product ofthe Iberian-Basque substratum, and its relationship with Old Basque aspiration. Wright -wich broke with the theory of two traditionally accepted norms postulating one single language up to the Carolingian reforms- while surveying studies originated by the thesis, its degree of acceptance and some of the major objections which have been raised.

En català és, tradicionalment i juntament amb la prefixació, el mecanisme és recurrent de construcció de neologismes. Aquest article analitza els neologismes sufixats recollits en la premsa editada en diferents punts geogràfics dels territoris de parla catalana, amb l’objectiu d’oferir una primera panoràmica contrastiva de la creació lèxica mitjançant la sufixació en les varietats geolectals d’una mateixa llengua.
