Aryl-bis-(scorpiand)-aza receptors differentiate between nucleotide monophosphates by a combination of aromatic, hydrogen bond and electrostatic inte…
2014
Bis-polyaza pyridinophane scorpiands bind nucleotides in aqueous medium with 10–100 micromolar affinity, predominantly by electrostatic interactions between nucleotide phosphates and protonated aliphatic amines and assisted by aromatic stacking interactions. The pyridine-scorpiand receptor showed rare selectivity toward CMP with respect to other nucleotides, whereby two orders of magnitude affinity difference between CMP and UMP was the most appealing. The phenanthroline-scorpiand receptor revealed at pH 5 strong selectivity toward AMP with respect to other NMPs, based on the protonation of adenine heterocyclic N1. The results stress that the efficient recognition of small biomolecules with…
A phenoxo-bridged dicopper(ii) complex as a model for phosphatase activity: mechanistic insights from a combined experimental and computational study
2017
A μ-phenoxo-bis(μ2-1,3-acetato)-bridged dicopper(II) complex [CuII2(L1)(μ-O2CMe)2][NO3] (1) has been synthesized from the perspective of modeling phosphodiesterase activity. Structural characterization was done initially with 1·3Et2O (vapour diffusion of Et2O into MeOH solution of 1; poor crystal quality) and finally with its perchlorate salt [CuII2(L1)(μ-O2CMe)2][ClO4]·1.375MeCN·0.25H2O, crystallized from vapour diffusion of n-pentane into a MeCN–MeOH mixture (comparatively better crystal quality). An asymmetric unit of such a crystal contains two independent molecules of compositions [CuII2(L1)(μ-O2CMe)2][ClO4] and [CuII2(L1)(μ-O2CMe)2(MeCN)][ClO4] (coordinated MeCN with 0.75 occupancy), …
Pyrophosphate-mediated magnetic interactions in Cu(II) coordination complexes.
2010
The reaction in water of Cu(NO(3))(2)·2.5H(2)O with 2,2'-bipyridine (bipy), 1,10-phenanthroline (phen), or 1,10-phenanthroline-5-amine (phenam), and sodium pyrophosphate (Na(4)P(2)O(7)), at various pHs, afforded three new copper(II)-pyrophosphate complexes, namely, {[Cu(bipy)(cis-H(2)P(2)O(7))](2)}·3H(2)O (1a), {[Cu(phen)(H(2)O)](4)(HP(2)O(7))(2)}(ClO(4))(2)·4H(2)O (2), and {[Cu(2)(phenam)(2)(P(2)O(7))](2)·25H(2)O}(n) (3). A solvent free crystalline phase of 1a was also isolated with formula {[Cu(bipy)(trans-H(2)P(2)O(7))](2)} (1b), which can be regarded as a pseudo-polymorph of 1a. Single crystal X-ray analyses revealed these compounds to have uncommon molecular architectures, with 3 being…
Toward very potent, non-covalent organophosphonate inhibitors of cathepsin C and related enzymes by 2-amino-1-hydroxy-alkanephosphonates dipeptides
2013
Cathepsins play an important role in several human disorders and therefore the design and synthesis of their inhibitors attracts considerable interest in current medicinal chemistry approaches. Due to the presence of a strong sulphydryl nucleophile in the active center of the cysteine type cathepsins, most strategies to date have yielded covalent inhibitors. Here we present a series of non-covalent β-amino-α-hydroxyalkanephosphonate dipeptidic inhibitors of cathepsin C, ranking amongst the best low-molecular weight inhibitors of this enzyme. Their binding modes determined by molecular modelling indicate that the hydroxymethyl fragment of the molecule, not the phosphonate moiety, acts as a t…
Dynamical Properties of Self-Assembled Surfactant-Based Mixtures: Triggering of One-Dimensional Anomalous Diffusion in Bis(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric Ac…
2013
The dynamic features of bis(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid (HDEHP)/n-octylamine (NOA) mixtures have been investigated as a function of the NOA mole fraction and temperature by (1)H NMR spectroscopy and rheometry. All data consistently suggest a composition-induced glass-forming behavior. The microscopic factors responsible for this behavior have been highlighted and have been explained in terms of driving forces given by HDEHP-to-NOA proton transfer, the tendency of the resulting species to establish H bonds and to spatially segregate the alkyl chains. The study sheds light on the molecular mechanism responsible for the peculiar behavior of transport properties in such systems and furnishes b…
Reduction of Polymerization Shrinkage Stress and Marginal Microleakage Using Soft-Start Polymerization
2003
Purpose: This study evaluated the influence of a soft-start light-curing exposure on polymerization shrinkage stress and marginal integrity of adhesive restorations. Materials and Methods: Six resin-based composites (Pertac II, Tetric Ceram, Definite, Surefil, Solitaire, and Visio-Molar) were adhesively bonded to a cylindrical cavity (n = 9 per material/light) in a photoelastic material. Visible light-curing was applied using either the standard polymerization mode (800 mW/cm2 exposure duration 40 s) of the curing light (Elipar TriLight, 3M ESPE) or the exponential mode from the same device (ramp-curing: 150 mW/cm2 to 800 mW/cm2 within the first 15 s of a total curing time of 40 s). Polymer…
Vibrational analysis of iron and zinc phosphate conversion coating constituents
2001
Abstract The FT-MIR/FT-FIR and NIR-FT-Raman spectra of orthorhombic α -Zn 3 (PO 4 ) 2 ·4H 2 O (α-hopeite) and monoclinic Zn 2 Fe(PO 4 ) 2 ·4H 2 O (phosphophyllite), including deuterated samples, have been measured in the polycrystalline state at room temperature and below. The distribution of vibrational levels was related to the results of complete unit-cell group analyses. The number of uncoupled OD stretching modes of α-hopeite (isotopically dilute samples) strongly exceeds that expected from the number of hydrogen positions of the structure reported. In contrast, unequivocal assignment of the four hydrogen bonds of phosphophyllite has been performed. The distortion of the phosphate tetr…
Preparation of monolithic polymer-magnetite nanoparticle composites into poly(ethylene-co-tetrafluoroethylene) tubes for uses in micro-bore HPLC sepa…
2021
[EN] This paper describes the fabrication of a novel microbore monolithic column modified with magnetite nanoparticles (MNPs) prepared in a poly(ethylene-co-tetrafluoroethylene) (EFTE) tubing, and its application as stationary phase for the chromatographic separation of phosphorylated compounds. In order to obtain the composite column, a two-step procedure was performed. The formation of a glycidyl methacrylate-based monolith inside the activated ETFE tube was firstly carried out. Then, two incorporation approaches of MNPs in monoliths were investigated. The generic polymer was modified with 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APTMS) to be subsequently attached to MNP surfaces. Alternatively, AP…
Listeria phage and phage tail induction triggered by components of bacterial-growth media (phosphate, LiCl, nalidixic acid and acriflavine)
2015
ABSTRACT The detection of Listeria monocytogenes from food is currently carried out using a double enrichment. For the ISO methodology, this double enrichment is performed using half-Fraser and Fraser broths, in which the overgrowth of L. innocua can occur in samples where both species are present. In this study, we analyzed the induction of phages and phage tails of Listeria spp. in these media and in two brain heart infusion (BHI) broths (BHIM [bioMérieux] and BHIK [Biokar]) to identify putative effectors. It appears that Na 2 HPO 4 at concentrations ranging from 1 to 40 g/liter with an initial pH of 7.5 can induce phage or phage tail production of Listeria spp., especially with 10 g/lite…
The Measurement of Enzyme Activities in the Resting Human Polymorphonuclear Leukocyte — Critical Estimate of a Method
1993
As a system for study, the isolated human polymorphonuclear leukocyte combines the advantages of a quasi-non-invasive preparation with a nearly complete complement of enzymes of carbohydrate and energy metabolism. However, small sample volumes and, in some cases, very low enzyme activities make high demands on sample processing, storage, and performance of continuous measurements, if the enzyme activities are to be measured with acceptable reproducibility. In the presented study several aspects of homogenization, storage, and continuous measurement were scrutinized, to identify critical steps and consider ways of optimizing the method. Polymorphonuclear leukocytes were separated from the bl…
