Abstract The extraction of uranium(VI) from 5.3 mol·L − 1 H 3 PO 4 (a typical concentration of wet phosphoric acid) with a series of neutral organosphosphorus synergistic reagents (0.125–0.250 mol·L − 1 ) used in mixture with 0.5 mol·L − 1 bis(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid (D2EHPA) in Isane IP 185 (a 100% isoparaffinic aliphatic diluent) has been investigated. The ability of soil-borne fungi to degrade organophosphonate carbon-to-phosphorus bonds

The ability of a wide variety of soil-borne fungal strains to degrade four structurally different compounds containing P-C bonds, namely the naturally occurring amino acid ciliatine, the popular herbicide glyphosate, phosphonoacetic acid and 2-amino-3-phosphonopropionic acid, was studied in order to show that soil fungi may play an important role in the biodegradation of organophosphonates. Most of the strains appeared to utilize ciliatine as the sole source of phosphorus for growth. Only a limited number of strains were able to grow on the other phosphonates used in this work. Olefin metathesis step-growth (acyclic diene metathesis (ADMET)) and chain-growth (ring-opening metathesis) polymerization was used to prepare linear poly(phosphonate)s with variable hydrophilicity. Toxicity of a dental adhesive compared with ionizing radiation and zoledronic acid

Background: To determine the toxicity of aqueous dilutions of a universal self-priming dental adhesive (DA) and comparing these with those elicited by exposure to ionizing radiation (IR), Zoledronic acid (Z) treatment and the synergic effects of the combined treatment with IR+Z. Immunomodulating role of bisphosphonates on human gamma delta T cells: an intriguing and promising aspect of their antitumour activity.

Vgamma9Vdelta2 T cells have the ability to produce inflammatory cytokines involved in protective immunity against intracellular pathogens and tumours and to display strong cytolytic as well as bactericidal activities. This suggests a direct involvement of Vgamma9Vdelta2 T lymphocytes in immune control of cancer and infections. These observations have recently aided development of novel immunotherapeutic approaches aimed at Vgamma9Vdelta2 T cell activation. PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This review examines recent data on the pathophysiology and mechanisms of bone pain; it highlights the use of multiple and interdisciplinary treatments rather than sole use of traditional analgesics. RECENT FINDINGS: Bone pain has been shown to have a unique pathophysiology. Recent experimental (animal) models have revealed that, parallel to increased bone destruction, ipsilateral spinal cord segments that receive primary input from the cancerous femur exhibit several notable neurochemical changes. Multiple drug resistance protein 4 (MRP4, ABCC4) belongs to the C subfamily of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily and participates in the transport of diverse antiviral and chemotherapeutic agents such as 6-mercaptopurine (6-MP) and 9-(2-phosphonyl methoxyethyl) adenine (PMEA). We have undertaken a comprehensive functional characterization of protein variants of MRP4 found in Caucasians and other ethnicities.
