Photo-induced chemiluminometric determination of Karbutilate in a continuous-flow Multicommutation assembly

The present paper deals with the chemiluminescent determination of the herbicide Karbutilate on the basis of its previous photodegradation by using a low-pressure Hg lamp as UV source in a continuous-flow multicommutation assembly (a solenoid valves set). The pesticide solution was segmented by a solenoid valve and sequentially alternated with segments of the 0.001 mol l(-1) of NaOH solution, the suitable media for the formation of photo-fragments; then it passes through the photo-reactor and was lead to the flow-cell after being divided in small segments which were sequentially alternated with the oxidizing system; 2 x 10(-5) mol l(-1) of potassium permanganate in 0.2% pyrophosphoric acid.…

A helium gas pressure cell for pressures up to 1 kbar (0.1 GPa) has been developed in conjunction with a closed-cycle He refrigerator allowing variable temperatures between 15 and 300 K. Both cell and refrigerator are equipped with optical windows suitable for photophysical measurements, such as temperature- and pressure-dependent absorption spectroscopy or laser flash photolysis. Examples of measurements on iron(II) spin-crossover systems are given. In these compounds, comparatively small external pressures induce significant changes in the thermodynamic equilibrium as well as in the relaxation dynamics.

A comparison of HONO budgets for two measurement heights at a field station within the boreal forest in Finland

Atmospheric concentrations of nitrous acid (HONO), one of the major precursors of the hydroxyl radical (OH) in the troposphere, significantly exceed the values predicted by the assumption of a photostationary state (PSS) during daytime. Therefore, additional sources of HONO were intensively investigated in the last decades. This study presents budget calculations of HONO based on simultaneous measurements of all relevant species, including HONO and OH at two different measurement heights, i.e. 1 m above the ground and about 2 to 3 m above the canopy (24 m above the ground), conducted in a boreal forest environment. Internal dynamics and protein-matrix coupling in trehalose-coated proteins.

Abstract We review recent studies on the role played by non-liquid, water-containing matrices on the dynamics and structure of embedded proteins. Two proteins were studied, in water–trehalose matrices: a water-soluble protein (carboxy derivative of horse heart myoglobin) and a membrane protein (reaction centre from Rhodobacter sphaeroides ). Autonomous artificial nanomotor powered by sunlight

Light excitation powers the reversible shuttling movement of the ring component of a rotaxane between two stations located at a 1.3-nm distance on its dumbbell-shaped component. The photoinduced shuttling movement, which occurs in solution, is based on a “four-stroke” synchronized sequence of electronic and nuclear processes. At room temperature the deactivation time of the high-energy charge-transfer state obtained by light excitation is ≈10 μs, and the time period required for the ring-displacement process is on the order of 100 μs. Singlet Excited-State Interactions in Naphthalene-Thymine Dyads

Two thymidine-derived nucleosides 1 and 2 were prepared by attaching a chiral naphthalene to the positions 5′ and 3′ of the sugar. The resulting dyads, which contain key substructures present in drugs and nucleic acids, exhibit different spatial arrangements (transoid or cisoid) of the fluorophore relative to the thymine unit. Emission measurements on these compounds in the presence of ROH molecules revealed a remarkable intramolecular fluorescence quenching for dyad 1. Photodynamics in stable complexes composed of a zinc porphyrin tripod and pyridyl porphyrins assembled by multiple coordination bonds

A tripod zinc porphyrin (TPZn(3)) forms a stable 1:1 complex with gold(III) tetra(4-pyridyl)porphyrin (AuTPyP(+)) and free-base tris(4-pyridyl)porphyrin (2H-Py(3)P) in nonpolar solvents. The strong binding of TPZn(3) with AuTPyP(+) or 2H-Py(3)P results from the encapsulation of AuTPyP(+) or 2H-Py(3)P inside the cavity of TPZn(3) through multiple coordination bonds, as indicated by UV-vis-NIR, ESI-MS, (1)H NMR, electrochemistry and computational studies. The binding constants of monomer zinc porphyrin (MPZn) with AuTPyP(+) and 2H-Py(3)P drastically decrease as compared with TPZn(3). High Pressure Enhances Hexacoordination in Neuroglobin and Other Globins

The techniques of high applied pressure and flash photolysis have been combined to study ligand rebinding to neuroglobin (Ngb) and tomato Hb, globins that may display a His-Fe-His hexacoordination in the absence of external ligands. High pressure induces a moderate decrease in the His association rate and a large decrease in His dissociation rate, thus leading to an enhancement of the overall His affinity. The overall structural difference between penta- and hexacoordinated globins may be rather small and can be overcome by external modifications such as high pressure. The kinetics and thermodynamics of the 2,6-bis(2-hydroxybenzilidene)cyclohexanone chemical reactions network was studied at different pH values using NMR, UV-vis, continuous irradiation, and flash photolysis. The chemical behavior of the system partially resembles anthocyanins and their analogue compounds. 2,6-Bis(2-hydroxybenzilidene)cyclohexanone exhibits a slow color change from yellow to red styrylflavylium under extreme acidic conditions.
