Compton Cameras have been proposed as an alternative to SPECT imaging with Gamma Camera, mainly due to factors such as the electronic collimation, which allows a bigger field of view and provides further information from the acquired events if compared to devices with mechanical collimation. By contrast, this involves a higher amount of data to be processed. In medical devices this leads to waiting times that are generally higher than desirable by the health-care professionals. In this work we have assessed the reconstruction of Compton images by making use of iterative and non-iterative techniques, and also evaluated its performances as a SPECT imaging technique.
Intraoperative Scintigraphy With Portable Gamma Camera for the Localization of Interaortocaval Paraganglioma

A 15-year-old adolescent girl diagnosed of interaortocaval paraganglioma with a positive 123I-MIGB SPECT/CT and 1 unsuccessful prior surgery was operated on with the assistance of a handheld gamma camera. Once the lesion was located and removed, 2 images were taken, one of the surgical field (without 123I-MIGB uptake) and another of the tumor ex vivo (with high 123I-MIGB uptake), confirming that the lesion had been satisfactorily excised. This case highlights the use of a portable gamma camera as a useful tool to locate this rare tumor, with a SPECT/CT positive for 123I-MIGB and a difficult anatomical location suspected.
SPET/CT image co-registration in the abdomen with a simple and cost-effective tool

Fusion of morphology and function has been shown to improve diagnostic accuracy in many clinical circumstances. Taking this into account, a number of instruments combining computed tomography (CT) with positron emission tomography (PET) or single-photon emission tomography (SPET) are appearing on the market. Spectral Measurement of Photon Emission from Individual Gold Nanoparticles Using Scanning Tunneling Microscopy

The light emission spectra of individual Au nanoparticles induced by a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) have been investigated. Two-dimensional ensembles of tunnel-coupled Au particles were prepared by thermal evaporation onto a native oxide silicon wafer in ultrahigh vacuum (10 – 9 mbar). Our STM measurements show a single peak at photon energy 1.6 eV in the tunneling mode and two peaks at 2.2 eV (connected with the Mie plasmon) and 1.45 eV (a new peak which was not discussed in literature before) in the field emission mode.
Multicolor photon emission from organic thin films on different substrates

Abstract Thin films of 1-pentyl-2 / ,3 / -difluoro-3 /// -methyl-4 //// -octyl- p -quinquephenyl and 9,10-Bis (4-pentylphenylethynyl)antracene organic molecules were grown on optical glass, silicon and porous silicon substrates. First optical and luminescent properties of such hybrid composites are thoroughly studied using spectroscopic techniques. The strong decrease of aggregation in thin films of 1-pentyl-2 / ,3 / -difluoro-3 /// -methyl-4 //// -octyl- p -quinquephenyl on porous silicon was observed. The possibility of simultaneous red, green and blue tunable photon emission from organic film/porous silicon hybrid structure is demonstrated.

Three-Dimensional Surface Display in Blood Pool Gated SPECT

In 14 patients (4 in good health and 10 with coronary heart disease) a blood pool gated single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) was executed. The transaxial slices of the cardiac blood pool were reconstructed. A three-dimensional surface display was employed for the analysis of the tomographic data. A fixed distance, a fixed threshold (50%), and some different planes of view were employed. The test permitted visualiza tion of the ventricular and the atrial movements in all patients. Single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging of the heart is helpful to quantify the left-ventricular ejection fraction and study myocardial perfusion scans. However, these evaluations require a 3-D segmentation of the left-ventricular wall on each phase of the cardiac cycle. This paper presents a fast and interactive graph cut method for 3-D segmentation of the left ventricle (LV) of rats in SPECT images. The method is carried out in three steps. In multiple sclerosis (MS) patients, symptoms such as: fatigue, lack of physical energy, spasticity, difficulty in performing movements, and motor coordination disorders, and with tremors, dizziness and postural instability are among the most common complications.
