One diode circuital model of light soaking phenomena in Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells
2018
Abstract In this work, we report on the modelling of light soaking effect on Ruthenium-based Dye Sensitized Solar cells (DSSCs). Such a phenomenon can be detected when exposing the cells at increasing hours of illumination and produces a reversible performance increase. Starting from the results obtained through the electro-optical characterization of the cells, we applied a one-diode circuital-model. Our results show a good agreement between the experimental and the simulated data, with a mean square error in the order of 10−12 and a maximum error in current lower than 0.6%. Finally such results allowed us to infer some precise trends followed by the cells main electrical parameters and of…

Replacement of Vehicle Fleet with EVs Using PV Energy
2016
The diffusion of Electric Vehicles (EVs), the reduction of environmental pollution and the production of energy from renewable sources (RES), in particular photovoltaic system, wind farm, hydroelectric plants, bioenergy and geothermal plants are the principal aspects discussed in the world. For this reason, the goal of this work is to study for 2014 year in all Italy's Regions; the energy production obtained to photovoltaic systems (PV) and the possibility to use with different percentage this energy for recharge the electric vehicles. In particular, they have been considered different scenarios in function to the km travelled per year from the population. This paper examines the integratio…
Econo- Environmental Dispatch Solutions for Power Systems Integrated with Renewable Energy Resources
2020
Due to the global initiatives for sustainable energy supply, the electric grids are increasingly integrated with environment-friendly and renewable energy resources. Hence, the power dispatch strategies are to be timely modified by incorporating the environmental aspects of generation along with the economic considerations. In this paper, we propose such an Econo- Environmental dispatch (EED) system for a power grids, which are integrated with renewable energy sources. The EED problem is formulated with two objective functions which aims at minimizing the unit cost of generation as well as minimizing the emissions caused during the power production. For attaining these objectives, cost and …
PV Reconfiguration Systems: a Technical and Economic Study
2017
Dynamical electrical array reconfiguration strategies for grid-connected PV systems have been proposed as solution to improve energy production due to the mismatch effect of PV plants during partial shading conditions. Strategies are based on the use of dynamic connections between PV panels given by the employment of switches that allow for each panel the series, parallel or exclusion connections, physically changing the electrical connections between the related PV modules, consequentially modifying the layout of the plant. Usually the cost of the dynamic matrix is not taken into account. This novel work evaluates the economic advantages obtained by the use of reconfiguration strategies in…
New European Wind Atlas: Mesoscale Atlas
2021
The mesoscale part of the New European Wind Atlas (NEWA) was created from WRF model simulations for all of Europe at a grid spacing of 3 km x 3 km, initially covering the 30 years from 1989 to 2018. The WRF model simulations (using WRF V3.8.1) were done in 10 partly overlapping domains using ERA5 reanalysis and OSTIA sea surface temperatures. We used many ensemble members to determine the most suitable configuration for the final production run. The model configuration, production and evaluation of the results against observations are described in Hahmann et al. (2020) and Dörenkämper et al. (2020).Data are accessible through doWIND, an instance of daTap (RESTfull API for data aggregation a…
Machine-learned models for the performance of six different solar PV technologies under the tropical environment
2020
Due to the recent environmental concerns and long-term challenges in energy security, the Global energy scenarios are shifting more towards sustainable and renewable energy resources. Brunei has planned to increase the use of cleaner energy technologies by contributing 10 percent or 954 GWh of renewable energy in its power generation mix by 2035. Out of the available renewable options, solar is the most promising one for Brunei, for example, the daily average solar installation is around 5kWh per day [1]. Though solar energy is an abundant resource, for optimally designing and successfully managing solar power projects, its availability in different time scales are to be analyzed and unders…
Numerical procedures and their practical application in PV modules’ analyses. Part II: Useful fractions and APE
2019
Abstract The article regards aspects of PV modules tested with the use of natural sunlight. The analysis of spectral structure of solar energy resources in southern Poland, carried out on the basis of meteorological data originating from SolarLab PW Wroclaw and AGH Krakow, Poland [ 1 ] was used in the article. It is a continuation of the article: Analysis of solar energy resources in southern Poland for photovoltaic applications [ 1 ], describing the method to determine spectral parameters of average photon energy (APE) and useful fraction (UF) with the use of a solar radiation spectrum simulator. This article, however, includes an experimental presentation of their impact on PV conversion …
Outdoor Performance of 10 year Old a-Si and Poly-Si Modules in southern Norway conditions
2012
The outdoor performance of 10 years modules has been measured in southern Norway conditions. For this study, Poly-Si and a-Si modules are selected and the measurements are carried out using a portable electronic load. The I–V characteristics and maximum power have been recorded for several modules of each technology. It is found that Poly-Si modules perform very well even after 10 years of span whereas some of a-Si modules have visual degradation which causes significant power losses. The experimentally outdoor monitored values of P mp , V mp , short circuit current (I sc ), Open circuit voltage (V oc ) and efficiency for different modules are compared with manufacturer's values.
Effects of COVID19 pandemic on the Italian power system and possible countermeasures
2021
Abstract The paper analyses the dramatic effects of the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Italian power system, considering the impacts on load and generation, market issues and ancillary services provision. During the period between March and May 2020, the Italian scenario was considered as exemplary due to the large reduction of loads and thermal generation caused by the hard lockdown across the Country. Italy has experienced the most severe effects of pandemic in terms of increase of death rates and of pressure on the health system as well as severity of the countermeasures. As a domino effect, the total lockdown of one of the most industrialized countries in the world has creat…
