Frazeologizmy w internetowych tekstach hybrydalnych

2020

In Internet communication, which is primarily based on visual impacts (images), hybrid texts do play a significant role. Some of the most popular ones are mems and demotivators. Their creators comment upon the reality in an entertaining, ironic, or even malicious way. In the verbal part of demotivators it is phraseologisms and winged words that are frequently applied. Putting together certain fixed phrases with graphic elements leads to the process of their dephraseologization, as well as to word plays (puns) based on the polysemy and homonymy of lexical units. In demotivators one can also observe certain changes occurring in the semantics of selected phraseologisms.

Analiza porównawcza wybranych frazeologizmów animalistycznych w trzech językach słowiańskich i w dwóch germańskich

2016

In the contemporary civilization, our world and that of animals merge more and more extensively, and so they are becoming increasingly dependent on each other. On the one hand, human beings - having considered themselves lords of the world - try hard to be as humane as they can towards animals, but on the other - they treat them utterly instrumentally, which is widely reflected, among others, in our languages. This particular observation has served as a basis for the present article. The article - after a concise conceptual part - presents selected fragments (about 40%) of the results of the empirical linguistic research which the author has performed in order to study qualitatively and qua…

The Fuzzy Concept of Idiom and What It Might Mean for Bilingual Dictionaries

2019

Linguistic categories were developed as tools for describing language systems and making them easier to learn. However, like many theoretical concepts and systems, they do not fully represent the real world and, in some cases, seek to imprison linguistic units within a well-ordered system – a procrustean bed as it were. Besides, although the most general categories are universal, the lower-ranking ones are often language-specific. Idiom (or phraseologism) is a very unclear linguistic concept, subject to never-ending debate. However, a strict adherence to categorisation is observable in practical bilingual lexicography and phraseography. This may lead to unwanted compartmentalisation and a…
