Thermal and thermo-oxidative stability of reprocessed poly(ethylene terephthalate)

An exhaustive assessment of the behaviour of virgin and mechanically reprocessed poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) facing thermal and thermo-oxidative decomposition processes is presented in this work, as an approach for the energetic valorisation of post-consumer PET goods. Multi-rate linear-non-isothermal thermogravimetric (TGA) experiments under inert (Ar) and reactive (O2) conditions were performed to virgin PET and its recyclates in order to simulate the thermal behaviour of the materials facing pyrolysis and combustion processes. Occurrence of priority pollutants in WWTP effluents and Mediterranean coastal waters of Spain

A comprehensive study aimed at evaluating the occurrence, significance of concentrations and spatial distribution of priority pollutants (PPs) along the Comunidad Valenciana coastal waters (Spain) was carried out in order to fulfil the European Water Framework Directive (WFD). Additionally, PP concentrations were also analysed in the effluent of 28 WWTPs distributed along the studied area. In coastal waters 36 organic pollutants of the 71 analysed, including 26 PPs were detected although many of them with low frequency of occurrence. Neutron Scattering of Poly(ethylene terephthalate)

Through the use of deuterium labeling, small angle neutron scattering (SANS) has been found to be an extremely effective tool for elucidating the structure of polymer molecules in the condensed matter state. In this study, the molecular morphology of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) has been determined under four different conditions: (1) in the glassy state, (2) in the semicrystalline state, (3) after cold-drawing, and (4) after undergoing partial transesterification.

Anisotropic diffusion in etched particle tracks studied by field gradient NMR

1994

Etched particle tracks produced after heavy ion irradiation of polymer foils are used as model systems to test the performance of NMR in a newly developed ultrahigh magnetic field gradient system. The stimulated NMR echo decay of molecules diffusing in the channels, formulated in terms of the self part of the intermediate scattering function, is anisotropic and yields the form factor of the channels.

Poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) and a sample of polyamide have been melt processed in the presence of two new phosphazene compounds, namely 2,2-dichloro-4,4,6,6-bis[spyro(2',2"-dioxy-1',1"-biphenyl)]cyclotriphosphazene (2Cl-CP) and 2,2-bis(2-methoxy-4-methyleneoxy-phenoxy)-4,4,6,6-bis[spyro(2',2"-dioxy-1',1"-biphenyl)]cyclophosphazene (CP-2EPOX). The blends were prepared by using polyamide 6 (PA6) and polyamide 6,6 (PA66) in 25/75 and 75/25 w/w compositions by using a co-rotating twin-screw extruder. This regulation established a positive list of substances that are authorized for use in plastic materials. Positron Lifetime in Hostaphan

Positron lifetime measurements in hostaphan RNK, used for encapsulation of Na positron sources, were performed. It was found that the parameter of positron lifetime spectra in hostaphan RNK differ markedly from those for other forms of polyethylene terephthalate. The maximum penetration depth of positrons from RNK hostaphan amounts 0.42 mm. The information gained in the present study is of great importance for experimenters using hostaphan RNK for encapsulation of positron sources.
