Strong phase transition, dark matter and vacuum stability from simple hidden sectors

2014

Motivated by the possibility to explain dark matter abundance and strong electroweak phase transition, we consider simple extensions of the Standard Model containing singlet fields coupled with the Standard Model via a scalar portal. Concretely, we consider a basic portal model consisting of a singlet scalar with $Z_2$ symmetry and a model containing a singlet fermion connected with the Standard Model fields via a singlet scalar portal. We perform a Monte Carlo analysis of the parameter space of each model, and we find that in both cases the dark matter abundance can be produced either via freeze-out or freeze-in mechanisms, but only in the latter model one can obtain also a strong electrow…

Phenomenological constraints on light mixed sneutrino dark matter scenarios

2015

In supersymmetric models with Dirac neutrinos, the lightest sneutrino can be an excellent thermal dark matter candidate when the soft sneutrino trilinear parameter is large. We focus on scenarios where the mass of the mixed sneutrino is of the order of GeV and sensitivity of dark matter direct detection is weak. We investigate phenomenological constraints on the model parameter space including the vacuum stability bound. We show that the allowed regions can be explored by measuring Higgs boson properties at future collider experiments.

The Zee–Babu model revisited in the light of new data

2014

We update previous analyses of the Zee-Babu model in the light of new data, e.g., the mixing angle $\theta_{13}$, the rare decay $\mu\to e \gamma$ and the LHC results. We also analyse the possibility of accommodating the deviations in $\Gamma(H\to \gamma\gamma)$ hinted by the LHC experiments, and the stability of the scalar potential. We find that neutrino oscillation data and low energy constraints are still compatible with masses of the extra charged scalars accessible to LHC. Moreover, if any of them is discovered, the model can be falsified by combining the information on the singly and doubly charged scalar decay modes with neutrino data. Conversely, if the neutrino spectrum is found t…

Low-mass fermiophobic charged Higgs phenomenology in two-Higgs-doublet models

2014

After the recent discovery of a Higgs-like boson, the possibility of an enlarged scalar sector arises as a natural question. Experimental searches for charged scalars have been already performed with negative results. We analyze the phenomenology associated with a fermiophobic charged Higgs (it does not couple to fermions at tree level), in two-Higgs-doublet models. All present experimental bounds are evaded trivially in this case, and one needs to consider other decay and production channels. We study the associated production of a charged Higgs with either a $W$ or a neutral scalar boson, and the relevant decays for a light fermiophobic charged Higgs. The interesting features of this scen…

Measurement of the effective Bs0→K+K− lifetime

2012

A precise determination of the effective $B_s^0 \rightarrow K^+ K^-$ lifetime can be used to constrain contributions from physics beyond the Standard Model in the $B_s^0$ meson system. Conventional approaches select $B$ meson decay products that are significantly displaced from the $B$ meson production vertex. As a consequence, $B$ mesons with low decay times are suppressed, introducing a bias to the decay time spectrum which must be corrected. This analysis uses a technique that explicitly avoids a lifetime bias by using a neural network based trigger and event selection. Using 1.0 fb$^{-1}$ of data recorded by the LHCb experiment, the effective $B_s^0 \rightarrow K^+ K^-$ lifetime is meas…

Search for Dark Matter in Events with Missing Transverse Momentum and a Higgs Boson Decaying to Two Photons inppCollisions ats=8  TeVwith the ATLAS D…

2015

Results of a search for new phenomena in events with large missing transverse momentum and a Higgs boson decaying to two photons are reported. Data from proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3  fb−1 have been collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The observed data are well described by the expected standard model backgrounds. Upper limits on the cross section of events with large missing transverse momentum and a Higgs boson candidate are also placed. Exclusion limits are presented for models of physics beyond the standard model featuring dark-matter candidates.

Constraining New Physics with the Fermilab Measurement ofCPViolation inB→ψKs

1999

Recently, the CDF Collaboration has reported a measurement of the CP asymmetry in the $B\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\psi}{K}_{s}$ decay: ${a}_{\ensuremath{\psi}{K}_{s}}{\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}0.79}_{\ensuremath{-}0.44}^{+0.41}$. We analyze the constraints that follow from this measurement on the size and the phase of contributions from new physics to $B\ensuremath{-}\overline{B}$ mixing. Defining the relative phase between the full ${M}_{12}$ amplitude and the standard model contribution to be $2{\ensuremath{\theta}}_{d}$, we find a new bound: $\mathrm{sin}2{\ensuremath{\theta}}_{d}\ensuremath{\gtrsim}\ensuremath{-}0.6(\ensuremath{-}0.87)$ at $1\ensuremat…

Lepton flavor violation in a Z′ model for the b→s anomalies

2019

In recent years, several observables associated to semileptonic $b \to s$ processes have been found to depart from their predicted values in the Standard Model, including a few tantalizing hints of lepton flavor universality violation. In this work we consider an existing model with a massive $Z^\prime$ boson that addresses the anomalies in $b \to s$ transitions and extend it with a non-trivial embedding of neutrino masses. We analyze lepton flavor violating effects, induced by the non-universal interaction associated to the $b \to s$ anomalies and by the new physics associated to the neutrino mass generation, and determine the expected ranges for the most relevant observables.
