Integrable Hamiltonian systems with swallowtails

2010

International audience; We consider two-degree-of-freedom integrable Hamiltonian systems with bifurcation diagrams containing swallowtail structures. The global properties of the action coordinates in such systems together with the parallel transport of the period lattice and corresponding quantum cells in the joint spectrum are described in detail. The relation to the concept of bidromy which was introduced in Sadovski´ı and Zhilinski´ı (2007 Ann. Phys. 322 164–200) is discussed.

Mechanical and acoustical behavior of sugarcane and flax fibres reinforced biocomposite

2017

For reasons of comfort, modern constructions require acoustic and thermal insulating materials, offering good mechanical performances. In this context, the valorization of plant fibres from the agro-food industry presents economic and environmental benefits. Thus, the aim of the present study is to develop a multifunctional sugarcane fibres reinforced epoxy porous composite combining good acoustic and mechanical properties. The study of the bagasse fibres geometry has shown that fibres’ length and diameter distribution can be fitted by lognormal laws. Composites manufactured by thermocompression process with an epoxy matrix were characterized using an experimental design whose parameters wer…

Systematic Error Correction of a 3D Laser Scanning Measurement Device

2011

International audience; Non-contact measurement techniques using laser scanning have the advantage of fast acquiring large numbers of points. However, compared to their contact-based counterparts, these techniques are known to be less accurate. The work presented in this paper aims at improving the accuracy of these techniques through an error correction procedure based on an experimental process that concerns mechanical parts. The influence of the three parameters defining the relative position and the orientation between the sensor and the surface is studied. The process used to build an experimental global model of error is presented and applied to a typical part composed of planes or sk…

Overview of the JET results in support to ITER

2017

The 2014–2016 JET results are reviewed in the light of their significance for optimising the ITER research plan for the active and non-active operation. More than 60 h of plasma operation with ITER first wall materials successfully took place since its installation in 2011. New multi-machine scaling of the type I-ELM divertor energy flux density to ITER is supported by first principle modelling. ITER relevant disruption experiments and first principle modelling are reported with a set of three disruption mitigation valves mimicking the ITER setup. Insights of the L–H power threshold in Deuterium and Hydrogen are given, stressing the importance of the magnetic configurations and the recent m…

Strength prediction of a triaxially braided composite

2011

The architecture of textile reinforcement affects the deformation and failure behavior of the textile reinforced composites. This paper presents an approximate method that incorporates the in-plane periodic meso structure of the textile composite in finite element models. In this approach, the representative unit cell (RUC) of a textile composite is divided into sub-cells. Instead of obtaining a homogeneous equivalent, these sub-cells are idealized and represented with laminates of different layups using shell elements. In this way, an RUC can be constructed with a small number of elements. This method holds the promise of creating a textile composite FE model with an improved accuracy with…

Acoustic methods for measuring the porosities of porous materials incorporating dead-end pores

2013

International audience; The acoustic properties of porous materials containing dead-end (DE) pores have been proposed by Dupont et al. [J. Appl. Phys. 110, 094903 (2011)]. In the theoretical description, two physical parameters were defined (the dead-end porosity and the average length of the dead-end pores). With the knowledge of the open porosity (measured with non-acoustic methods), and the measurement of kinematic porosity (also called the Biot porosity in this article), it is possible to deduce the dead-end porosity. Two acoustic methods for measuring the Biot porosity for a wide range of porosities are proposed. These methods are based on acoustic transmission and on the low and high …

Effects of fiber orientation of adjacent plies on the mode I crack propagation in a carbon-epoxy laminates

2011

Abstract The influence of ply orientation on the resistance to mode I delamination of multidirectional composite laminates can be assessed by Double Cantilever Beam (DCB) tests. However, one of the difficulties associated with such a study is the change in overall elastic parameters occurring when modifying local ply orientations. The present work uses laminates with special stacking sequences allowing for isolating the orientation parameter. Multidirectional DCB specimens were designed so as to obtain an uncoupled quasi isotropic and quasi-homogeneous elastic behavior, with the same properties for the entire laminate and the two sub laminates separated by the pre crack at mid-plane. The re…

Supramolecular self-assembly on the B-Si(111)-(√3x√3) R30° surface: From single molecules to multicomponent networks

2017

Abstract Understanding the physical and chemical processes in which local interactions lead to ordered structures is of particular relevance to the realization of supramolecular architectures on surfaces. While spectacular patterns have been demonstrated on metal surfaces, there have been fewer studies of the spontaneous organization of supramolecular networks on semiconductor surfaces, where the formation of covalent bonds between organics and adatoms usually hamper the diffusion of molecules and their subsequent interactions with each other. However, the saturation of the dangling bonds at a semiconductor surface is known to make them inert and offers a unique way for the engineering of m…

Etude numérique de la convection forcée turbulente dans un dissipateur thermique composé de plusieurs rangées d'ailettes de différentes formes

2016

In this thesis, we present an numerical study of turbulent forced convection in a heat sink provided with a transverse baffle in the bypass. The first model is composed of plates fins and the second consists of adding pin fins between the plates fins. The governing equations, based on the k- SSt turbulence model, are disscredized and solved by the finite volume method and the SIMPLE algorithm. Dynamic results are presented in terms of velocity fields, profiles of the axial velocities in selected sections and pressure drop. The thermal study is presented in terms of temperature fields and the distribution of Nusselt number. A ratio between the thermal and dynamic performances is presented to…

Resonant Beam Steering and Carpet Cloaking Using an Acoustic Transformational Metascreen

2018

International audience; We invoke the Huygens principle to derive dispersion characteristics of acoustic transformational meta-surfaces that can deflect parallel wavefronts in a desired direction. We also propose a dual-Lorentz resonator whose aperture fields can be tuned by geometrical changes to implement a particular phase with unity reflection coefficient. The proposed metascreen is designed by our arranging slightly detuned Lorentz cavities that generate the necessary interference to compensate for the incident wavefronts. Since a complete 0-2 pi range of the reflection phase is achieved, the metascreen can steer a beam across the full horizon. Moreover, since the proposed dual resonat…
