We evaluated the use of piezoelectric surgery (Piezosurgery; Mectron Medical Technology; Carasco, Genoa, Italy) as a means of avoiding some complications of osteotomy and osteoplasty in otologic surgery, particularly in classic canal-wall-up mastoidectomy. Piezoelectric surgery is a recently developed system for cutting bone with microvibrations created by the piezoelectric effect. The aim of this study was to compare of piezoelectric surgical technique with the one with conventional rotary instruments in terms of edema, trismus and pain, in mandibular third molar surgery. Purpose. The present case report presents the clinical results of delayed expansion of mandibles by ultrasonic surgery in case of mono edentulous. Materials and methods. The patients with a residual alveolar ridge thickness between 2,3 and 4,1 mm in the coronal area of posterior mandible was threated.
