Resumen: Este articulo analiza algunos rasgos de la narrativa reciente del argentino Ricardo Piglia con relacion a las poeticas de Macedonio Fernandez y del estadounidense Francis Scott Fitzgerald. La primera parte trabaja la relacion conflictiva de Piglia con el llamado posmodernismo; la segunda parte explica el vinculo entre Piglia y Macedonio, a traves de la poetica de la autonomia de lo literario; la tercera parte aborda la relacion con Fitzgerald, por medio de un analisis de sus respectivas busquedas de formas narrativas, para concluir en una cuarta parte ciertos cambios dentro de la propia obra novelesca de Piglia. AbstractDuring the eleventh and twelfth centuries the Church began a process of renovation (renovatio) and the city of Rome was given new meanings. Antiquity is part of the identity of the Eternal City; the reuse or reframing of aspects of antiquity inevitably transformed the image of Rome. Public spaces, architecture and objects were given new Christian readings. Inscriptions, present both in sacred and secular settings, played an important role. A similar rewriting can also be found in travel literature and descriptions of the city, such as in the Mirabilia urbis Rome, where ancient monuments were re-interpreted to demonstrate the superiority of Christianity. Caves are considered oligotrophic habitats exhibiting constant temperature and relative humidity throughout the year. While darkness inhibits photosynthetic microorganism growth, introducing artificial lights to promote touristic activity can induce algae and cyanobacteria proliferation. Benzo[a]pyrene represses DNA repair through altered E2F1/E2F4 function marking an early event in DNA damage-induced cellular senescence

AbstractTranscriptional regulation of DNA repair is of outmost importance for the restoration of DNA integrity upon genotoxic stress. Here we report that the potent environmental carcinogen benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P) activates a cellular DNA damage response resulting in transcriptional repression of mismatch repair (MMR) genes (MSH2, MSH6, EXO1) and of RAD51, the central homologous recombination repair (HR) component, ultimately leading to downregulation of MMR and HR. B[a]P-induced gene repression is caused by abrogated E2F1 signalling. The Effect of Vanadium on the Content of Chlorophyll, P-700 and Cytochrome f at Different Light Intensities in Chlorella fusca

Summary Cells of Chlorella fusca, were grown in liquid medium supplemented ,vith O.2% glucose and varied concentrations of vanadium both at 5 different light intensities and in the dark. \Vith increasing concentrations of vanadium the content of chlorophyll, P-700 and cytochrome f increased as well, each, however, in a different way. At the saturating concentration of 20 µg vanadium per litre the pigment content per dry weight was double as high as that of the vanadium-free control; the ratio of chlorophyll a/chlorophyll b increased from 2.1 to 2.9. RNA polymerase II (RNA pol II) is a multisubunit enzyme that requires many auxiliary factors for its activity. Over the years, these factors have been identified using both biochemical and genetic approaches. Recently, the systematic characterization of protein complexes by tandem affinity purification and mass spectroscopy has allowed the identification of new components of well established complexes, including the RNA pol II holoenzyme. Modification of the monoaminergic neurotransmitters in frontal cortex and hippocampus by dietary trans alpha linolenic acid in piglets

International audience; The effect of partial isomerization of dietary α-linolenic acid on the monoaminergic neurotransmitters in piglets was studied. After feeding the animals for 14 days with diets containing or not trans α-linolenic acid, neurotransmitters related to the monoaminergic function were quantified in the frontal cortex and in the hippocampus. The partial isomerization of dietary α-linolenic acid resulted in increasing endogenous monoamine levels in the frontal cortex (+55% for dopamine) and was related to a very low incorporation of trans polyunsaturated fatty acids. Sex-specific windows for high mRNA expression of DNA methyltransferases 1 and 3A and methyl-CpG-binding domain proteins 2 and 4 in human fetal gonads

DNA methyltransferases (DNMTs) and 5-methyl-CpG-binding domain proteins (MBDs) are involved in the acquisition of parent-specific epigenetic modifications in human male and female germ cells. Reverse Northern blot analyses demonstrated sex-specific differences in mRNA expression for the maintenance DNMT1 and the de novo DNMT3A in developing testis and ovary. In fetal testis DNMT1 and DNMT3A expression peaked in mitotically arrested spermatogonia around 21 weeks gestation. In fetal ovary transcriptional upregulation of DNMT1 and DNMT3A occurred during a very brief period at 16 weeks gestation, when the oocytes proceeded through meiotic prophase.
