Familial mixed congenital myopathy with rigid spine phenotype
1997
We describe a father and daughter with a rigid spine syndrome and proximal myopathy. The index patient was a 42-year-old man, who died from respiratory failure after a lifelong, slowly progressive proximal myopathy and a rigid spine phenotype. This was morphologically characterized by cytoplasmic bodies, increased desmin, features of reducing-body myopathy, and sarcoplasmic and intranuclear tubulofilamentous inclusions. These cases are characterized by an early onset and possibly autosomal-dominant inheritance, with associated complex structural hallmarks of both desmin-related and inclusion body myopathies. Together they may be defined as a complex mixed congenital myopathy with a rigid sp…
Intraosseous monitoring of drilling in lumbar vertebrae by ultrasound: An experimental feasibility study.
2016
The rationale for this project is to evaluate the efficiency of a novel sonographic method for measurements of interosseous distances. The method utilizes a propagating ultrasonic beam through aqueous milieu which is directed as a jet into a drilled tract. We used a plastic model of human L5 vertebra and ex vivo specimen of L5 porcine vertebra and generated 2 mm in diameter tracts in vertebral pedicles. The tracts were created in the "desired" central direction and in the "wrong" medial and lateral directions. The drilled tracts and the residual, up to opposite cortex, distances were measured sonographically and mechanically and compared statistically. We show that "true" mechanical measure…
Specific adduction of plant lipid transfer protein by an allene oxide generated by 9-lipoxygenase and allene oxide synthase
2006
International audience; Lipid transfer proteins (LTPs) are ubiquitous plant lipid-binding proteins that have been associated with multiple developmental and stress responses. Although LTPs typically bind fatty acids and fatty acid derivatives in a non-covalent way, studies on the LTPs of barley seeds have identified an abundantly occurring covalently modified form, LTP1b, the lipid ligand of which has resisted clarification. In the present study, this adduct was identified as the {alpha}-ketol 9-hydroxy-10-oxo-12(Z)-octadecenoic acid. Further studies on the formation of LTP1b demonstrated that the ligand was introduced by nucleophilic attack of the free carboxylate group of the Asp-7 residu…
Strombine dehydrogenase in the demosponge Suberites domuncula: Characterization and kinetic properties of the enzyme crucial for anaerobic metabolism
2008
Previously, the cDNA and the respective gene for a presumed tauropine dehydrogenase (TaDH) from Suberites domuncula (GenBank accession nos. AM712888, AM712889) had been annotated. The conclusion that the sequences encode a TaDH had been inferred from the 68% identity with the TaDH protein from the marine demosponge Halichondria japonica. However, subsequent enzymatic assays shown here indicate that the presumed S. domuncula opine dehydrogenase is in fact a strombine dehydrogenase (StDH). The enzyme StDH is highly specific for glycine and is inhibited by an excess of the substrate pyruvate. Besides kinetic data, we report in this study also on the predicted tertiary and quaternary structure …
5-(3,4-Dimethoxybenzyl)-7-isopropyl-1,3,5-triazepane-2,6-dione acetonitrile solvate refined using a multipolar atom model
2010
International audience; The crystal structure of the title compound, C16H23N3O4·CH3CN, was refined using a multipolar atom model transferred from an experimental electron-density database. The refinement showed some improvement in crystallographic statistical indices compared with the independent atom model. The triazepane ring adopts a twist-boat conformation. In the crystal structure, the molecule forms intermolecular contacts with 14 different neighbours. There are two N-H...O and one C-H...O intermolecular hydrogen bond.
Characterization of lignin dissolved during alkaline pretreatment of softwood and hardwood
2015
Various alkaline pretreatments were applied to Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) and silver/white birch (Betula pendula/pubescens) wood chips and the characterization of sulfur-free lignin dissolved was performed. The behavior of lignin during these pretreatments (alkali charge 1–8% NaOH, time 30–120 minutes, and temperature 130–150°C) was studied mainly in terms of lignin removal efficiency and molar mass distribution of dissolved lignin. The amount of lignin in pretreatment liquors increased along with an increase in the alkali charge of 0.8–4.4% and 0.6–3.4% of o.d. pine and birch wood, respectively. The most significant parameter affecting the molar mass of the dissolved lignin was shown to…
Evaluation of the anaesthetic properties and tolerance of 1:100,000 articaine versus 1:100,000 lidocaine. : a comparative study in surgery of the low…
2011
Objectives: To evaluate the anaesthetic properties and tolerance of articaine versus lidocaine at equal vasoconstrictor concentration. Study Design: A total of 96 male and female patients who underwent surgical treatment of the lower third molar participated. Patients were randomly assigned to articaine hydrochloride with epinephrine 1:100,000 and lidocaine hydrochloride with epinephrine 1:100,000. The variables analysed were latency period, duration of anaesthetic effect, tolerance and adverse reactions. Results: Both the latency period and the duration of anaesthetic effect were greater for articaine, although the differences were not statistically significant. Latency: mean difference of…
