Colour as a driver of Pinot noir wine quality judgments: An investigation involving French and New Zealand wine professionals
2016
Despite anecdotal reports suggesting an influence of perceived wine colour on wine professionals’ judgments of wine intrinsic quality, there is a lack of empirical evidence on the phenomenon. The major aim of the present study was to investigate the importance of perceived colour as a driver of chemosensory judgments of Pinot noir wines including sensory evaluations of quality and typicality. Twenty-three French and 23 New Zealand (NZ) wine professionals judged Pinot noir wines from France and NZ on a range of attributes including perceived colour (hue, intensity, and brightness), varietal characteristics, and overall wine quality. The wines were evaluated in both standard clear glassware w…
Comparison of conventional descriptive analysis and a citation frequency-based descriptive method for odor profiling: An application to Burgundy Pino…
2010
International audience; The limitations of intensity scoring when describing the odor characteristics of a complex product have been documented in the literature. In the present work, the odor properties of 12 Burgundy Pinot noir wines were described by two independent panels performing, respectively, an intensity-based (conventional descriptive analysis) and a citation frequency-based method. Methods were compared according to three criteria: similarity of the sensory maps, control of panel performance and practical aspects. Intensity scoring and citation frequency data were analyzed, respectively, by Principal Components Analysis (PCA) and Correspondence Analysis (CA) followed by Hierarch…
Abolished laser-evoked potentials and normal blink reflex in midlateral medullary infarction.
1999
We investigated two patients presenting with the rare finding of almost isolated hemianalgesia with a sensory level on the contralateral side sparing the face. Clinical findings, electrophysiological studies (absent laser-evoked pain-related somatosensory potentials, normal electrically evoked somatosensory potentials, magnetically evoked potentials, and blink reflexes), and magnetic resonance imaging showed the ventrolateral medullar tegmentum containing the spinothalamic tract to be affected by lacunar infarction. The blink reflex R2 component was unimpaired in both patients.
Sensitivity of laser-evoked potentials versus somatosensory evoked potentials in patients with multiple sclerosis
2003
Somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) play a less important role in the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS) than visually evoked potentials. Since standard SEPs only reflect the dorsal column function, we now investigated spinothalamic tract function in patients with MS using laser-evoked potentials (LEPs).LEPs to thulium laser stimuli (3ms, 540 mJ, 5mm diameter) were recorded from 3 midline positions (Fz, Cz, Pz) in 20 patients with MS, and 6 patients with possible but unconfirmed MS. Peak latencies and peak-to-peak amplitude of the vertex potential negativity (N2) and positivity (P2) were evaluated and compared with normative values from 22 healthy control subjects. Median and tibial ne…
Impacts du changement climatique sur la phénologie du Pinot noir en Bourgogne
2013
The viticulture is an important economic and cultural sector in Burgundy. The current climate change raises a number of issues including its impact on crops. In this thesis, the idea is to develop a methodology to address the problem: what are the potential impacts of changes in temperature on the phenology of Pinot noir in Burgundy for years 2031-2048?The evolution of temperatures in Burgundy since 1961 is characterized by a positive temperature shift at the end of the 1980s followed by a period where the temperature increases of about 1.5 ° C.One of the interests of this thesis is to develop, following a strategy developed during the thesis, a spatial database conducted over the period 19…
Chimerism and genetic diversity within the cultivar group of pinots
2002
Three clones of Vitis vinifera cv. pinot gris were analysed at 50 microsatellite loci to assess the presence of intra-varietal genetic variability. Two clones revealed a polymorphism expressed by the presence of three alleles at 5 loci instead of the two expected for a diploid species. By sequencing the three alleles amplified at two loci, we confirm that they correspond to different allelic states of the same locus but differ in their number of repeat units. Such tri-allelic profiles could reveal periclinal chimeras in which the two cell layers of the apical meristem are genetically different. For two clones, this periclinal chimeric state has been deduced from the comparison of the genoty…
Oligodendrocyte ablation triggers central pain independently of innate or adaptive immune responses in mice.
2014
Mechanisms underlying central neuropathic pain are poorly understood. Although glial dysfunction has been functionally linked with neuropathic pain, very little is known about modulation of pain by oligodendrocytes. Here we report that genetic ablation of oligodendrocytes rapidly triggers a pattern of sensory changes that closely resemble central neuropathic pain, which are manifest before overt demyelination. Primary oligodendrocyte loss is not associated with autoreactive T- and B-cell infiltration in the spinal cord and neither activation of microglia nor reactive astrogliosis contribute functionally to central pain evoked by ablation of oligodendrocytes. Instead, light and electron micr…
Wine metabolomic analysis : "chemical messages in a bottle"
2014
The main objective of this work was to develop non-targeted metabolomics analyses of bottled wines in order to decipher chemical informations from the time-related evolution of their composition. This original research was based on the hypothesis that, when analyzed, bottled wines would still hold chemical memories of envionmental parameters (vineyard management, oenological practices, climate, terroir…) at the moment of their elaboration, even after several years of ageing. A second hypothesis was that in order to anticipate the future evolution of the wine quality in terms of chemical composition, it is necessary to know what it was in the past. To that purpose, and for the first time in …

Clinical usefulness of laser-evoked potentials
2003
In contrast to the function of the visual or auditory pathways which are electrophysiologically accessible by visual or auditory evoked potentials, the somatosensory pathway cannot be investigated as a whole by conventional somatosensory evoked potentials (SEP), because these only reflect function of large fibers, dorsal columns, medial lemniscus and their thalamo-cortical projections mediating sensations like touch and vibration. The other half of the somatosensory system, signaling temperature and pain perception, uses a different set of afferents and different central pathways, the function of which is accessible by laser-evoked potentials (LEPs). LEP can document lesions of the spinotha…
