Chromosome studies of trematodesOpisthioglyphe ranae(Plagiorchiidae) from different populations
1995
Summary The diploid set of O. ranae from two localities, small rivers Penaquilla (Alicante province) and Gaibiel (Castellon province) in Spain, contain 22 chromosomes. The structure of karyotype was: 1st M+2nd T+3rd, 7–10 th SM+4th-6th ST+11th M-SM. Chromosomes of the first pair constitute 19.75% of the total haploid set length. A comparative karyological analysis of geographically separate O. ranae populations (from Spain, Poland and Crimea) showed the great karyological stability. Insignificant interpopulational differences in the morphology of 1st, 4th, 5th, 7th and 10th chromosome pairs were detected, which occurred as a result of small pericentric inversions.
Anatectic amphibole and restitic garnet in Variscan migmatite from NE Sardinia, Italy: insights into partial melting from mineral trace elements
2014
We report results of a laser-ICP-MS investigation of trace element contents in the main constituent minerals of an amphibole-bearing migmatite from the Variscan orogen in northeastern Sardinia. The migmatite is associated with migmatised orthogneiss and Al-silicate-bearing pelitic migmatites. The protolith of the amphibole-bearing migmatite was a mid-Ordovician igneous rock of intermediate composition characterised by a biotite + plagioclase + quartz assemblage. The migmatite consists of mesosomes and tonalitic (or, less frequently, granodioritic) leucosomes, characterised by amphibole crystals (potassian ferropargasite) up to 2 cm in size. The tonalitic leucosomes are made up of quartz, pl…
Basaltic Rocks Analyzed by the Spirit Rover in Gusev Crater
2004
The Spirit landing site in Gusev Crater on Mars contains dark, fine-grained, vesicular rocks interpreted as lavas. Pancam and MiniâThermal Emission Spectrometer (Mini-TES) spectra suggest that all of these rocks are similar but have variable coatings and dust mantles. Magnified images of brushed and abraded rock surfaces show alteration rinds and veins. Rock interiors contain â¤25% megacrysts. Chemical analyses of rocks by the Alpha Particle X-ray Spectrometer are consistent with picritic basalts, containing normative olivine, pyroxenes, plagioclase, and accessory FeTi oxides. MoÌssbauer, Pancam, and Mini-TES spectra confirm the presence of olivine, magnetite, and probably pyroxene. The…
Phase equilibria modelling of kyanite-bearing anatectic paragneisses from the central Grenville Province
2008
Kyanite-bearing paragneisses from the Manicouagan Imbricate Zone and its footwall (high-P belt of the central Grenville Province) preserve evidence of partial melting with development of metamorphic textures involving biotite-garnet ± kyanite ± plagioclase ± K-feldspar-quartz. Garnet in these rocks displays a variety of zoning patterns with respect to Ca. Pseudosection modelling in the Na O-CaO-K O-FeO-MgO-Al O - SiO -H O-TiO -O (NCKFMASHTO) system using measured bulk rock compositions accounts for the textural evolution of two aluminous and two sub-aluminous samples from the presumed thermal peak to conditions at which retained melt solidified. The prograde features are best explained by p…
Il vaso e i cocci. Note in margine a La llegenda del llibreter assassí de Barcelona
2013
Composition and structure of helminth communities in two populations of Pipistrellus pipistrellus (Chiroptera: Vespertilionidae) from Spain
2001
The community composition and structure of helminths of Pipistrellus pipistrellus (Schreber, 1774) from two widely separated Spanish localities, El Saler (n = 42) and the San Pedro pothole (n = 34), were determined and compared. Five species of trematodes, Plagiorchis (Plagiorchis) sp., Lecithodendrium (Lecithodendrium) linstowi Dollfus, 1931, Prosthodendrium (Prosthodendrium) sp., Pycnoporus heteroporus (Dujardin, 1845) and Parabascus semisquamosus (Braun, 1900), and one species of cestode, Hymenolepis pipistrelli López-Neyra, 1941, were found. The two bat populations harboured the same helminth species and showed the same trematode dominance, but the most important differences between the…
Host-parasite relationships of Zootoca vivipara (Sauria: Lacertidae) in the Pyrenees (North Spain)
2000
The helminths infesting the common lizard, Zootoca vivipara (Jacquin, 1787), were studied with special attention to the relations between the number of nematodes, Oswaldocruzia filiformis (Goeze, 1782), and the size, sex and age class of the host. The possible seasonality of the parasite intensity and the relationship with the feeding habits of the host were also tested. Helminth infracommunities of Z. vivipara were depauperate with lizards harbouring only two species, the trematode Plagiorchis molini (Lent et Freitas, 1940) and the nematode O. filiformis. A positive correlation between host size and the number of O. filiformis was found for female Z. vivipara. However, no correlation was d…
Nature and origin of the hematite-bearing plains of Terra Meridiani based on analyses of orbital and Mars Exploration rover data sets
2006
The ~5 km of traverses and observations completed by the Opportunity rover from Endurance crater to the Fruitbasket outcrop show that the Meridiani plains consist of sulfate-rich sedimentary rocks that are largely covered by poorly-sorted basaltic aeolian sands and a lag of granule-sized hematitic concretions. Orbital reflectance spectra obtained by Mars Express OMEGA over this region are dominated by pyroxene, plagioclase feldspar, crystalline hematite (i.e., concretions), and nano-phase iron oxide dust signatures, consistent with Pancam and Mini-TES observations. Mossbauer Spectrometer observations indicate more olivine than observed with the other instruments, consistent with preferentia…
