Effect of the host plant on the immunity of a phytophagous insect : influence of grape variety on the ability of the European grapevine moth to defen…
2013
In tritrophic interactions involving phytophagous insects, host plants and natural enemies, trophic levels are highly dependent on each other. Host plant may strongly affect directly phytophagous insect and indirectly natural enemies growing on these phytophagous insects. When a natural enemy attacks a phytophagous insect, the host immune system constitutes the last chance for the host to survive to an infection. A great variation of insect immune system is generally found in populations for susceptibility to pathogens, suggesting that variable selection pressures may have shaped and driven adaptation of immune traits. This project aims to determine the influence of both host plant and natu…
Infarctus cérébral et plasticité : focus sur le BDNF
2011
Functional recovery after ischemic stroke largely involves brain plasticity and more accurately its ability to reorganize the neuronal networks spared by the infarct. Studies conducted on animals using different ischemic stroke models have demonstrated that plastic changes are induced by BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor). Hence, increasing levels of BDNF in the brain is considered a promising therapeutic strategy to reduce post-stroke impairments. In this context, our work had 2 aims: 1) In a rat model, to identify cells involved in the over-production of BDNF and to evaluate the pertinence of the measurement of circulating BDNF levels to estimate brain BDNF levels; 2) In ischemic st…
Modeling of neuron-astrocyte interaction : application to signal and image processing
2022
The introduction of the tripartite synapse and the discovery of calcium wave propagation motivated our research to explore the potential of astrocytes as active components in brain circuits. For decades, astrocytes have been considered passive cells whose primary function is metabolic and structural support to neurons; however, recent physiological measurements suggest that astrocytes modulate neural communication, strengthen synaptic efficacy, enhance synchronization, and promote homeostasis. Inspired by these biological functions, this research aimed to implement astrocytes in artificial spiking networks for deep learning applications. First, we modeled the biological interaction between …
Role of polysialic acid (PSA) in the control of food intake and body weight
2013
Hypothalamus plays a major role in the regulation of energy homeostasis by the presence of neural circuits controlling food intake. These circuits are plastic and can be rewired during adulthood. We hypothesized that synaptic plasticity can occur during physiological conditions. We have shown that synaptic contact on hypothalamic anorexigen POMC neurons are rewired in mouse upon high fat diet (HFD). This synaptic process is mandatory to adjust energy intake and requires the glycan PSA (polysialic acid). PSA promotes synaptic plasticity in the brain by the weakening of cell-to-cell interaction by addition on NCAM (neural cell adhesion molecule). We hypothesized that a defect in brain synapti…
Division of labor in anti-parasite defense strategies in ant colonies
2014
Division of labor is a key characteristic of social insects and contributes to their ecological success. Especially in disease defense, the intra-colony partitioning of sanitary work can reduce disease transmission, keep nestmates available for other tasks and reduce costs associated with sanitary task performance (i.e. at the behavioral and physiological level). Factors internal and external to the individual affecting sanitary task allocation are not well known and most studies investigated genetic differences between workers performing behavioral sanitary work. In the first two studies I addressed whether individual experience (through repeated exposure to a sanitary hazard or performanc…
Olfactory neurons plasticity : environment effects during development
2012
In order to investigate the consequences of postnatal odorant exposure on a specific population of olfactory sensory neurons (OSNs), we have taken the following experimental approach. MOR23-GFP mice were daily exposed to Lyral for 21 days starting at birth and three lines of investigations were carried out. Using anatomical analysis we observe that the density of OSNs expressing MOR23 decreases after odorant exposure. This decrease concerns primarily matures OSN (MOR23-OMP+). In order to study molecular changes within individual OSNs, mRNA levels for olfactory signaling pathway components were quantitatively analyzed using qPCR on GFP-labeled neurons (7 per mouse). mRNAs for CNGA2, PDE1C an…
Processus écologiques et évolutifs influençant la colonisation de l'ambroisie à feuilles d'armoise (Ambrosia artemisiifolia l.) en France.
2012
Understanding of the mechanisms behind the success of the invasive species is essential to manage current biological invasions and to prevent the risks of the futures ones. Using a conceptual framework integrating ecological and evolutionary processes, this work aimed to analyse the factors of the common ragweed colonization in France. First of all, the study of biotic and abiotic interactions has shown the ability of common ragweed to tolerate herbivory and water stress. Common ragweed is able to buffer defoliation through an efficient compensatory growth with no consequence on the reproduction. Herbivory tolerance has been maintained in introduced populations even if herbivory pressure is…

Implication de la plasticité cérébrale hypothalamique dans la régulation de l'homéostasie énergétique chez la souris : effet d'un régime gras
2012
The hypothalamus plays a crucial role in the control of energy balance. In adult brain, this area remain plastic and the cellular network can be rapidly modified under environmental pressures. Studies show than hypothalamic remodeling are disturbed when metabolic diseases such as obesity or type II diabetes are declared. In this study we hypothesized that a high fat diet (HFD) inducing obesity could rapidly causes cell modifications in the adult hypothalamus network. To answer this question, we have established a one week HFD mouse model, and evaluated to type of hypothalamic plasticity which are synaptic plasticity and neurogenesis. Our results show that HFD leads to an increase of the exc…
