Summary Venous thromboembolism (VTE)‐BLEED, a decision tool for predicting major bleeding during chronic anticoagulation for VTE has not yet been validated in practice‐based conditions. We calculated the prognostic indices of VTE‐BLEED for major bleeding after day 30 and day 90, as well as for recurrent VTE and all‐cause mortality, in 4457 patients enrolled in the international, prospective XALIA study. The median at‐risk time was 190 days (interquartile range 106–360). Background: Erythropoietin (EPO) is a cytokine primarily involved in the regulation of erythropoiesis. In response to hypoxia–ischemia, hypoxia-inducible factor 1 induces EPO production, which, in turn, inhibits apoptosis of erythroid progenitor cells. By the same mechanism and acting through other signaling pathways, EPO exerts neuroprotective effects. Increased resistance to hypoxia and decreased apoptosis are thought to be important mechanisms for tumor progression, including malignant glioma. We have determined the effect of delayed addition of G-CSF after chemotherapy on PBPC mobilization in a group of 30 patients with high risk breast cancer (HRBC) undergoing standard chemotherapy followed by high-dose chemotherapy (HDCT) and autologous SCT. Patients received FAC chemotherapy every 21 days followed by G-CSF at doses of 5 microg/kg/day starting on day +15 (groups 1 and 2) or +8 (group 3) after chemotherapy. PBPC collections were performed daily starting after 4 doses of G-CSF and continued until more than 2.5 x 10(6) CD34+ cells had been collected. A quantitative study of the pancuronium antagonism at the motor endplate in human organophosphorus intoxication

Nine patients with organophosphorus (OP) intoxication developing neuromuscular transmission defects were given pancuronium 1, 2, or 4 mg intravenously (IV). Thirteen patient controls with hypoxic encephalopathy received similar dosages. The responses were monitored electrophysiologically using single and repetitive nerve stimulation (20 and 50 Hz). In OP patients, pancuronium did not alter the amplitude of the single CMAP, whereas its repetitive discharges were reduced. Severe neuromuscular blocks were reversed only partially by pancuronium 4 mg. In less severe blocks, 1 and 2 mg resulted in marked improvement.
