Monetary policy, asset prices and consumption in China

2012

Abstract This paper studies the wealth channel in China. Although the wealth channel has been found to be functioning in many advanced countries, its existence is yet to be explored in most emerging economies, also in China. In order to illuminate dynamics between monetary policy, asset prices and consumption, we use the structural vector autoregression method. The findings support the view that a loosening of China's monetary policy does indeed lead to higher asset prices. Furthermore, a positive shock to residential prices increases household consumption, while the role of stock prices seems to be small from the households’ point of view. Estimating the non-market benefits of an urban park: Does proximity matter?

Abstract There is increasing and widespread public support for public park provision in urban areas given that they provide an array of different recreational activities enhancing the citizen's quality of life. A contingent valuation survey of 900 randomly chosen inhabitants was undertaken in Valencia (Spain) to estimate the non-market benefits derived from the provision of a new urban park where there is currently an old train station. Three viewpoints on the integral geometry of foliations

We deal with three different problems of the multidimensional integral geometry of foliations. First, we establish asymptotic formulas for integrals of powers of curvature of foliations obtained by intersecting a foliation by affine planes. Then we prove an integral formula for surfaces of contact of an affine hyperplane with a foliation. Finally, we obtain a conformally invariant integral-geometric formula for a foliation in three-dimensional space.

Disposable society represents a way of living that is not sustainable anymore, mainly in a context like our planet where resources are really scarce. As theorized by Paul Connett, the guru of zero waste strategy, there is no waste until that material still contains a drop of usefulness. The core point of the paper is the implementation of a zero waste strategy in a small municipality in Sicily. By building up a SD model we can figure out how saving process connected to the decrease of amount of waste piled up in the landfoll, has been boosting this virtuous cycle, which is bound to cope with the citizens claims about environmental care and lower tax burden level.

Existence and multiplicity of periodic solutions for second order Hamiltonian systems depending on a parameter

The existence of at least one nontrivial periodic solution for a class of second order Hamiltonian systems depending on a parameter is obtained, under an algebraic condition on the nonlinearity G and without requiring any asymptotic behavior neither at zero nor at infinity. The existence is still deduced in the particular case when G is subquadratic at zero. Finally, two multiplicity results are proved if G, in addition, is required to fulfill some different Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz type superquadratic conditions at infinity.
