phase-locked soliton pairs in a fiber ring laser

2002

We have experimentally observed the formation of stable pulse pairs with a π/2 phase difference in a passively mode-locked stretched-pulse fiber ring laser. We have developed a simplified theoretical model that, keeping the essential features of the experiment, reduces greatly the number of free parameters and solved it numerically. The agreement with the experimental results is excellent.

Fiber-based measurement of temporal intensity and phase profiles of an optical telecommunication pulse through self-phase modulation

2018

International audience; We propose and experimentally validate an all-fiber based approach to characterize the phase and intensity profiles of optical pulses. Based on three optical spectra affected by different levels of self-phase modulation, we were able to reconstruct the temporal details of pulses typical of optical telecommunications.

Observation of Frequency Tunable Cross-Phase Modulation Instabilities in Highly Birefringent Photonic Crystal Fiber

2006

We observed frequency tunable modulation instability owing to cross-phase modulation in normal group velocity dispersion regime of a birefringent holey fiber. Sideband shifts were 3-8 THz for polarization and 30-60 THz for modal instabilities.

Simultaneous achievement of polarization attraction and Raman amplification in optical fibers

2004

We present a theoretical analysis and experimental demonstration of the combined effects of polarization attraction and Raman amplification in isotropic optical fibers. The polarization attraction is based on four-wave mixing interaction of counterpropagating waves.

Strong reduction of optimum pump power for efficient wave conversion in optical fibers with dual-frequency circularly polarized pump waves.

2002

We present experiments that show achievement of highly efficient generation of parametric sidebands in an optical fiber with dual-frequency, circularly polarized pump waves. An appropriate choice of the separation between the pump frequencies permits a strong reduction of the optimum power for highly efficient frequency conversion.

Broadband Tuning of Polarization Modulation Instability in Microstructured Optical Fiber through Thermal Heating

2020

Broadband tuning of polarization modulation instability in microstructured optical fibers is reported. Tunability is achieved by simultaneous birefringence-dispersion changes through thermal heating. 906 cm-1 frequency tunability range is attained.

Phase-locked soliton pairs in a stretched-pulse fiber laser.

2002

We report the experimental observation of stable pulse pairs with a ±π/2 phase difference in a passively mode-locked stretched-pulse fiber ring laser. In our setup the stabilization of interacting subpicosecond pulses is obtained with a large range of pulse separations, namely, from 2.7 to 10 ps, without the need for external control. © 2002 Optical Society of America

Passive compensation of the thermal drift of magnetostriction based Q-switched fiber lasers

2009

Abstract The authors propose and demonstrate a method to compensate the thermal drift of magnetostriction based Q-switched fiber lasers, which is caused by the eddy currents induced in the Terfenol-D magnetostrictive actuators. The consequent wavelength detuning between the fiber gratings of the laser is passively compensated by the use of Monel 400 as thermal actuator of the non-modulated grating. A highly stable pulsed signal is achieved in the range of 1 Hz–5 kHz, with a wavelength detuning between gratings maintained below 10 pm. Furthermore, an optimization of the use of the pump power is proposed, utilizing part of it for simultaneously pumping a fiber optic based amplification stage.
