The book contains selected papers by L. v. Ranke, most of them for the first time translated into Italian. In his Preface F. Tessitore explains Ranke’s role in the history of culture. The Introduction of editor and translator sheds light upon the link between Ranke’s philosophy of State and the theory of astetics of Goethe’s and Kant’s era. The focus on this relation enables the reader to be aware of the meaning of Ranke’s famous “obiectivism”.

Political discourse in the Baltic states is marked by debates on the past as much as on the future. The 1980s drive to break from the Soviet Union, driven by an overwhelming sense of historical injustice, began with small ‘calendar demonstrations’ marking significant dates in Baltic history. Key domestic and international disputes are based on contested interpretations of history. This is particularly visible each spring in Latvia. El artículo reflexiona sobre las condiciones de aparición de los sujetos en la acción política asumiendo la centralidad del cuerpo como categoría de análisis. Partimos de la hipótesis de que el lenguaje de la política necesita un cuerpo en el que materializarse. Hay dos partes muy marcadas. En la primera, de carácter teórico, se repasan algunos hitos en la renovación del concepto de cuerpo y sus consecuencias en la conformación de la subjetividad. Se propone un concepto spinozista de cuerpo entendiendo este como espacio afectado en el que las emociones se materializan y, a la vez, como espacio activo en la producción del significado.
