Maleic diamide polymerizable surfactants. Applications in emulsion polymerization
2003
Abstract A series of new polymerizable non-ionic and ionic surfactants (surfmers) with amides groups on both sides of the C=C double bonds have been prepared upon reaction of maleic isoimide carrying a long alkyl chain (or a benzyl group) with a hydrophilic amine derivative. Their critical micellar concentration (CMC) was measured with a surface tensiometer. They have been engaged in batch emulsion polymerization of styrene, and semi-batch seeded copolymerization of styrene and butyl acrylate, giving stable latexes during the polymerization process, and upon extraction with ethanol, showing a high rate of incorporation at the particle surface. However these surfmers do not confer good steri…
(1-Adamantyl)methyl glycidyl ether: a versatile building block for living polymerization.
2014
(1-Adamantyl)methyl glycidyl ether (AdaGE) is introduced as a versatile monomer for oxyanionic polymerization, enabling controlled incorporation of adamantyl moieties in aliphatic polyethers. Via copolymerization with ethoxyethyl glycidyl ether (EEGE) and subsequent cleavage of the acetal protection groups of EEGE, hydrophilic linear polyglycerols with an adjustable amount of pendant adamantyl moieties are obtained. The adamantyl unit permits control over thermal properties and solubility profile of these polymers (LCST). Additionally, AdaGE is utilized as a termination agent in carbanionic polymerization, affording adamantyl-terminated polymers. Using these structures as macroinitiators fo…
Synthesis of polycaprolactone by microwave irradiation ? an interesting route to synthesize this polymer via green chemistry
2003
Poly(e-caprolactone) has become an important biocompatible and biodegradable polymer. Indeed, due to its multiple biomedical applications, the synthesis of polycaprolactone has received increased attention in the past few decades. Moreover, microwave irradiation is a very clean modern technique widely used for green chemistry. Here, several polymers were synthesized by microwave irradiation, without any solvent, using nontoxic, biologically acceptable lanthanide halides as initiators. Reaction times varied between 2 and 90 min. The molecular weights of the obtained polymer products were between 3,000 and 16,000 g/mol. After polymerization, the polycaprolactone polymers were functionalized b…
Molekulargewichtsverteilungen einiger emulsionspolymerisate von styrol
1965
The molecular-weight distributions of several polymers pre…
Electroactive linear-hyperbranched block copolymers based on linear poly(ferrocenylsilane)s and hyperbranched poly(carbosilane)s.
2009
A convenient two-step protocol is presented for synthesis of linear-hyperbranched diblock copolymers consisting of a linear, organometallic poly(ferrocenylsilane) (PFS) block and hyperbranched poly(carbosilane) (hbPCS) segments. Linear PFS diblock copolymers were synthesized through photolytic ring-opening polymerization of dimethyl[1]silaferrocenophane as the first block and methylvinyl[1]sila-ferrocenophane as the second. These block copolymers served as polyfunctional cores in a subsequent hydrosilylation polyaddition of different silane-based AB 2 monomers. Three AB 2 monomers (methyldiallylsilane; methyldiundecenylsilane, and ferrocenyldiallylsilane) were investigated; they introduced …
Syntheses and properties of gel chromatography materials
1970
Abstract The effect of the mode of synthesis on the characteristics of cross-linked polymers is examined for cross-linked copolymers of ethylvinylbenzene-divinylbenzene and vinyl acetate-divinyl adipate. For homogenously cross-linked gels the amount of cross-linking agent determines the “pore size” of these gels in the swollen state. Decreasing the amount of the divinyl component results in gels with an increase in the excluded molecular weight. The mechanical stability sets the experimental limit of their usage, so this type of gel is mostly suited for the separation of oligomers; polymers, however, may be separated by use of heterogenously cross-linked gels. The latter type of gel is prep…
2D Bimetallic Oxalate‐Based Ferromagnets with Inserted [Fe(4‐Br‐sal 2 ‐trien)] + and [Fe(3‐R‐sal 2 ‐trien)] + (R = Br, Cl and CH 3 O) Fe III Spin‐Cro…

The syntheses, structures and magnetic properties of the compounds of formula [FeIII(4-Br-sal2-trien)][MnIICrIII(ox)3]0.67Cl0.33·CH3OH_solvate (1), [FeIII(3-Br-sal2-trien)][MnIICrIII(ox)3]·(CH3CN)2 (2), [FeIII(3-Cl-sal2-trien)][MnIICrIII(ox)3]·(CH3OH)2·(CH3CN)2 (3) and [FeIII(3-CH3O-sal2-trien)][MnIICrIII(ox)3]·(CH3OH)·(H2O)1.5·(CH2Cl2)0.5 (4) are reported. The four structures present a 2D honeycomb anionic layer formed by MnII and CrIII ions linked through oxalate ligands and a cationic layer of the FeIII complexes intercalated between the 2D oxalate network. The main differences compared with previous 2D oxalate-based structures are the presence of double layers of cations in compounds 1,…

The kinetics of the anionic polymerization of styrene were investigated under pressure (1≤p/bar < 1800) with Na+ as counter ion in tetrahydropyran (THP) as solvent and with Cs+ as counter ion in 1,2-dimethoxyethane (DME) as solvent. The results yielded the activation volume of the contact ion pair ΔV and the sum (ΔV + ΔVcs) of the activation volume of the solvent separated ion pair ΔV and the volume change upon formation of solvent separated ion pairs from contact ion pairs ΔVcs. The numerical values are negative. The activation volume of the solvent separated ion pairs could be estimated.
Understanding the impact of poly(allylamine) plasma grafting on the filtration performances of a commercial polymeric membrane
2019
Abstract Commercial membranes often exhibit difficulties in rejecting specific ionic species, and especially multivalent cations, due to their usual negative charge. To face this drawback, it is proposed here to functionalize the membrane surface by allylamine plasma polymerization. The impact of this modification on both permeation flux and ion rejection is investigated for single salt solutions and ion mixtures. It is shown that the membrane behaves like a positive membrane from the point of view of cation rejection but the negative charge (and the corresponding electrical field) inside pores leads to high rejection of divalent anions like a negative membrane. This allows a high selectivi…
Distance Matters: Biasing Mechanism, Transfer of Asymmetry, and Stereomutation in N-Annulated Perylene Bisimide Supramolecular Polymers
2021
International audience; The synthesis of two series of N-annulated perylene bisimides (PBIs), compounds 1 and 2, is reported, and their self-assembling features are thoroughly investigated by a complete set of spectroscopic measurements and theoretical calculations. The study corroborates the enormous influence that the distance between the PBI core and the peripheral groups exerts on the chiroptical properties and the supramolecular polymerization mechanism. Compounds 1, with the peripheral groups separated from the central PBI core by two methylenes and an ester group, form J-type supramolecular polymers in a cooperative manner but exhibit negligible chiroptical properties. The lack of cl…
