Organic solvent vapor effects on phase transition of α and β tegafur upon grinding with solvent additives.

Abstract Solvent effects on α tegafur (5-fluoro-1-(tetrahydro-2-furyl)uracil) phase transition to β tegafur during grinding with solvent additive, as well as phase transition in samples exposed to 95% relative solvent vapor pressure has been studied in this research. Samples containing 0.5% and 0.1% of β tegafur in α and β tegafur mixture, as well as samples of pure α tegafur were ground with different solvent additives, and conversion degrees depending on the solvent were determined using PXRD method. Vascular endothelial growth factor gene polymorphisms in ovarian cancer

Polymorphisms within the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) gene, the most important regulator of angiogenesis and vascular permeability, were shown to be independently associated with an impaired prognosis in various malignancies. No data have been reported in ovarian cancer. Methods. An abnormal activation state of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) plays a key role in organ injury induced by vascular atherosclerotic disease (VAD) and diabetes mellitus (DM). PMN membrane fluidity and cytosolic Ca2+ content can be considered markers of PMN activation. In this research we evaluated the PMN membrane fluidity and cytosolic Ca2+ content in VAD subjects with and without type 2 DM and examined the association between these parameters and the mono- or polyvascular localization. Genetic polymorphism at the CSN1S1 gene in Girgentana dairy goat breed

The aim of this work was to evaluate the variability of the αs1-casein locus in the endangered Girgentana dairy goat breed in order to define genetic improvement and a conservation program for this breed. The study was performed on 200 dairy goats by means of different PCR protocols. The most frequent alleles were A (0.590) and F (0.290) followed by B (0.065) and N (0.047). CSN1S1 E allele was identified with a very low frequency (0.008). The most common genotype was AF (0.365) followed by AA (0.340). Campylobacter spp. contamination of chicken carcasses during processing in relation to flock colonisation.

The presence and numbers of campylobacters on chicken carcasses from 26 slaughter groups, originating from 22 single-house flocks and processed in four UK plants, were studied in relation to the level of flock colonisation determined by examining the caecal contents of at least ten birds per group. The prevalence of campylobacters on carcasses from five campylobacter-negative flocks processed just after other negative flocks was low (/=30%). Campylobacters were isolated from 90 to 100% of carcasses from three flocks which were partly colonised, with 5, 5 and 30% of caecal contents positive, and which were processed after fully colonised flocks. Numerous CTV isolates differing in biological and molecular characteristics have been reported worldwide. Recently, CTV was detected in Italy in several citrus crops from three separate areas: (1) Cassibile, province of Syracuse; (2) Massafra, province of Taranto; and (3) Belpasso, province of Catania. Ecological, morphological and genetic characterization of sympatric Haemonchus spp. parasites of domestic ruminants in Mauritania

SUMMARYThe 4 species of ruminants (dromedary, zebu cattle, sheep and goat) in arid areas of Mauritania harboured Haemonchus spp. as the most frequent internal parasite. This was a rare situation where the 3 putative species, H. longistipes (dromedary), H. placet (zebu cattle) and H. contortus (sheep and goat) occurred sympatrically. The study was undertaken on hosts slaughtered at the Nouakchott abattoir, on the basis of monthly collection of worms.
