Supramolecular silver polyoxometalate architectures direct the growth of composite semiconducting nanostructures.

2009

Nanosilver on a string: Crystalline silver polyoxovanadate supramolecular architectures are employed as precursors for the synthesis of composite nanowires (see scheme). The nanostructures are composed of semiconducting vanadium oxide which forms wires with high aspect ratios, and are embedded with metallic silver nanoparticles. © 2009 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Preparation, Characterization and Photocatalytic Activity of TiO2 Impregnated with the Heteropolyacid H3PW12O40: Photo-assisted Degradation of 2-prop…

2009

Abstract Both commercial and home prepared TiO2 samples impregnated with tungstophosphoric acid (H3PW12O40) were prepared and used for the photo-assisted degradation of 2-propanol in gas–solid regime. The characterization results evidenced a good coverage of the polyoxometalate (POM) onto the surface of both types of TiO2 samples along with a marginal effect of the presence of ethanol or HCl during the POM impregnation step on the specific surface area, porosity, morphology, crystallinity and acidity of the samples. Propene was the main intermediate product found in 2-propanol photocatalytic degradation by using the samples containing POM as the photocatalyst, whereas propanone was mainly o…

Unveiling the Effect of Magnetic Noise in the Coherence of Single-Molecule Quantum Processors.

2019

Quantum bits (qubits) constitute the most elementary building-blocks of any quantum technology, where information is stored and processed in the form of quantum superpositions between discrete energy levels. In particular, the fabrication of quantum processors is a key long-term goal that will allow us conducting specific tasks much more efficiently than the most powerful classical computers can do. Motivated by recent experiments in which three addressable spin qubits are defined on a potential single-molecule quantum processor, namely the [Gd(H2O)P5W30O110]12− polyoxometalate, we investigate the decohering effect of magnetic noise on the encoded quantum information. Our state-of-the-art m…

Photo-assisted Degradation of 2-Propanol in Gas-Solid Regime by Using TiO2 Impregnated with Heteropolyacids H3PW12O40

Monolacunary Keggin polyoxometalates connected to ten 4d or 4f metal atoms.

2013

The rational self-assembly of mono-lacunary Keggin clusters with 4d and 4f metal salts via a conventional method has yielded two novel polyoxometalate-based 4d-4f heterometallic compounds containing lacunary Keggin anions connected to ten metal atoms: {[Ag{Ag2(H2O)4}{Ln(H2O)6}2H ⊂ {SiW11Ln(H2O)4O39}2]·nH2O (Ln = Ce and n = 7 for 1, Ln = Pr and n = 3 for 2). Their structures were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses and further characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectra, and thermogravimetric (TG) analyses. A structural feature in 1 and 2 is that each [SiW11O39](8-) cluster (SiW11) is connected to ten metals (five Ag(+) and five Ln(3+) cations), representing the highe…

Tungstophosphoric acid supported on polycrystalline TiO2 for the photodegradation of 4-nitrophenol in aqueous solution and propan-2-ol in vapour phase

2009

Abstract The present work reports the preparation of samples based on Millennium PC-500 TiO 2 loaded with different amounts of tungstophosphoric acid (up to 30% in weight) and their characterisation by means of different physicochemical techniques: powder X-ray diffraction, N 2 adsorption–desorption at −196 °C, transmission electron microscopy, UV–vis and FT-IR spectroscopies and thermogravimetric analyses. The acidity of samples was evaluated by FT-IR using pyridine as probe molecule, and the catalysts activity was tested for the photodegradation of 4-nitrophenol in aqueous solution and for the photo-oxidation of propan-2-ol in vapour phase. The results show a noticeable improvement (8 and…

Charge transfer interactions in self-assembled single walled carbon nanotubes/Dawson–Wells polyoxometalate hybrids

2014

We demonstrate the success in self-assembling pyrene-modified Dawson–Wells-type polyoxometalates (POMs) with single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) by means of π–π interactions. In this context, the immobilization of POMs onto SWCNTs is corroborated by aberration-corrected high-resolution electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and Raman spectroscopy. From steady-state and time-resolved photophysical techniques we derived evidence for mutual interactions between SWCNTs and POMs in the excited states. The latter are the inception to a charge transfer from the SWCNTs to the POMs. Our results corroborate the suitability of POM–SWCNTs assemblies for photoactive molecular devices.
