Fabrication of Porous Hydrogenation Catalysts by a Selective Laser Sintering 3D Printing Technique

2019

Open in a separate window Three-dimensional selective laser sintering printing was utilized to produce porous, solid objects, in which the catalytically active component, Pd/SiO2, is attached to an easily printable supporting polypropylene framework. Physical properties of the printed objects, such as porosity, were controlled by varying the printing parameters. Structural characterization of the objects was performed by helium ion microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray tomography, and the catalytic performance of the objects was tested in the hydrogenation of styrene, cyclohexene, and phenylacetylene. The results show that the selective laser sintering process provides an alte…

Study and evaluation of dispersion of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane and silica filler in polypropylene composites

2018

Various methods were used for evaluation of homogeneity of polypropylene (PP) matrix composites with octakis([n‐octyl]dimethylsiloxy)octasilsesquioxane, octakis([n‐octadecyl]dimethylsiloxy)octasilsesquioxane, and silica (SiO2) fillers. The filler dispersion was determined on the basis of the results from the wide‐angle X‐ray scattering (WAXS) analysis, from the tests of selected mechanical properties, from scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy and from the decomposable entropic descriptor method. The use of different methods allowed to evaluate homogeneity of PP composites on various levels and with different precisions. The dispersion degree was found…

Multifunctional biosourced materials : durability of unidirectional recycled matrix composites reinforced with flax fibers

2022

Now more than ever, many engineering sectors are turning to natural fiber composites because of the need for more environmentally friendly solutions. One of the main challenges in developing the use of biocomposites in outdoor applications is the lack of knowledge about their long-term durability. The main objective of this work is to provide a better understanding of the mechanisms involved in photooxidative aging of unidirectional composites made of a virgin or recycled polypropylene matrix, reinforced with long flax fibers. In addition, this work aims to study the potential use of a recycled matrix by comparing the evolution of its behavior to photooxidative aging with a virgin matrix. T…

The consequences of physical post-treatments (microwave and electron-beam) on food/packaging interactions: A physicochemical and toxicological approa…

2016

IF 4.052; The safety of microwave and electron-beam treatments has been demonstrated, in regards to the formation of reaction products that could endanger human health. An integrated approach was used combining the potential toxicity of all the substances likely to migrate to their chemical characterizations. This approach was applied to polypropylene (PP) films prepared with a selection of additives. Components were identified by liquid and gas chromatography using a mass selective detector system. Their potential toxicity was assessed using three in vitro short-term bioassays and their migrations were carried out using a standards-based approach. After the electron-beam treatment some add…

Modeling of the process of moisture loss during the storage of dried apricots

2011

[EN] Moisture content is a reference parameter for dried food because the growth of most microorganisms is inhibited below certain water activity levels. In addition, it has a determining influence on the evolution of important parameters, such as color and flavor, and on other properties and deterioration reactions, such as texture, oxidation processes and nutritional value. During the storage of some dried fruits, moisture is produced due to Maillard reactions and exchanged with the surrounding environment through the packaging. The evolution of dried foods during their shelf life depends on the storage conditions. The aim of this study is to analyze the evolution of the moisture content …

Dried-Fruit Storage: An Analysis of Package Headspace Atmosphere Changes

2019

The quality of packaged dried foods depends on storage conditions and is determined largely by the initial gas composition inside and the transference through the container. The aim of this work was to analyze the O2 and CO2 concentrations within the internal atmosphere of the packaging. In this study, dried apricots and raisins were packaged in glass jars and polypropylene trays thermosealed with different polymers, and stored at 5, 15, 25, and 35 &deg

Determination of phenolic antioxidants additives in industrial wastewater from polypropylene production using solid phase extraction with high-perfor…

2019

Abstract This paper describes a new method for the effective extraction of the residues of five synthetic phenolic antioxidants (AOs): Ditertbutylphenol (DTF), Irganox 1010, Irganox 1076, Ethanox 330 and Cyanox 1790, from industrial water produced during the polypropylene (PP) deodorization process. In the deordorization process, PP is stored in a column for an average time of four hours and exposed to nitrogen and water vapor to remove inflammable compounds which may generate atypical odors in the PP. The samples of interest were taken in the desorber, followed by cleansing and pre-concentration using modified styrene divinylbenzene polymer cartridges. Liquid chromatography was performed w…

Deep seroma after incisional hernia repair. Case reports and review of the literature.

2015

Wound-related complications are common after incisional hernia repair with mesh; seroma formation is the most frequent problem. The formation of a deep seroma has been rarely reported in the literature. In one year, September 2012-2013, 136 patients underwent surgery for incisional hernia repair, both elective and urgent. The following complications were observed: one dislocation of polypropylene prosthesis, a massive relapsed seroma and two deep seromas described in this article. A 63- years-old female underwent open incisional hernia repair with an intraperitoneal PTFE patch. She developed recurrent seroma under the mesh drained percutaneously, and finally the prosthesis was removed. A 72- …
